My 03 tahoe is running really high rpms to shift 1st gear up 5k 6k please help me anyone.

CarGurusJan 27, 2014 - Alright well normally I can feel my truck shift into drive or reavers but it's not but .... running while won't move,I mean it moves but won't change gear,fluids good ... I have a 2002 Mercury Stabler Car starts up fine but will not move ... I hear a pop and my tahoe stops pulling and no reverse either it just revs up.

it can also be your torque convertor clutch solenoid
or you 3 to 4 shift solenoid inside transmission

It really sounds like a tranny problem, best addressed by a Transmission shop. It might be an easy fix, or a really expensive one.

even though you may have had a intermittent issue check the pcm there may be a code that will help you when/if this happens again

sounds like your torque converter going bad. change the tranny fluid, and look for metal shavings (have a pro do this), sometimes you can squeeze enough life out of a bad tranny/torque converter by changing the fluid, or it might just be a clogged tranny filter. change the fluid, and if theres metal shavings in it, sell it while it still runs.

Ok if you have 1st and second gear and it shifts to neutral instaed of 3rd , that means the 3-4 clutches are burned up.This is common problem with the 4L60E transmission and the transmissionwill need to be removed and rebuilt ot repaired.The 3-4 clutches are the weak point in the trans and i usually use a z-pack when rebuilding them.It increases hold capacity and durability.

check your rear brake shoes if you had them changed recently they may not have been adjusted properly and that sometimes will cause that and also check the rear diff yoke where the driveshaft goes insometimes it get gear oil on it and harder for it turn. i would try these hints first before i take to shop

suggest checking the fluids, may be dirty and need a filter change. mine did the same thing untill i did a service on it
