Yes, you have a leak. it could be the pump, the gearbox or a line. they have a lot of pressure so a little hole will cause a lot to leak. you have to determine where it's leaking and have it fixed.

I have a 2001 ford escort zx2 and I have a couple issues with it. One is that the steering is a little hard when I first start driving it. The other is that sometimes it won't shift out of park for a long...

First thing I would do is check all the fluid levels.
Power steering, transmission and radiator.
Top up appropriately with correct fluids.
Pay attention to condition of hoses, looking for signs of leaks.
The power steering hose may have (commonly) a damp area at some connection crimp points which is usually not a big deal if it's not showing a drip forming.
I would tell you to change the transmission fluid but you need to be careful with that as you might end up having to repair or replace the trans. If the trans fluid is very pale, do NOT change it. Just add some trans fluid conditioner.

1999 Chevy Malibu is leaking power steering fluid why

Hello, this can caused by several thing, the power steering pump may be leaking, the stering gear leaking, or one of the power steering hoses. you will need to make a visual inpection of these parts and see if you see fluid leaking out. the teo most common areas are, the power steering pressure hose and the steering gear mounted under the vehicle on the frame

Power steering fluid is leaking from hose or reservoir 2003 accord

HELLO! Give the area around the pump a good clean-up. Start the car, and while someone turns the steering wheel from lock to lock (several times) try and determine if the connection point of pressure line to pump is leaking. Also watch behind the pulley for fluid escaping from behind the belt pulley. If it's the connection ;
Remove, clean , and tighten. If leak is behind pulley the pump seal is defective and you'll need to but a new pump. It is less expensive to buy it from an auto parts store. But here is a tip; Stop at a dealership, have the parts dept. run your VIN to identify what your pump looks like. Take that drawing to parts store to insure your getting the correct replacement. Honda uses a multitude of of different pumps.

I have noticed today, that when i have pressed the brakes it seems there is no power brake. This has happened several times today, and this is the first time.

If you have vacuum brakes then you might wnat to check for a vacuum,leak. If no leaks are present then the booter is at fault, and may need to be replaced. If you have hydroboost, you may need to add power steering fluid, if fluid is ok then it could be the power steering pump or the in line valve on the pressure hose.

Jeep Wrangler 1997: Broken power steering pump

I don't know what the date was when you inquired. But, if you drive it will be o.k. as long as there was no fluid loss. You will just have to overcome the stiff steering. If you lost all of your fluid you will seize the pump and then it will throw the belt and you will be walking because your water pump will cease to turn and the engine will over heat.
