Transmission problem I was driving the truck back and forth to work just fine, ended up in the hospital for 4 days and try to go to the store and theres no reverse. put in drive and it goes fine. once the truck warmed up the truck acted like it was in neutral. it cools down and it drives forward again until it warms back up. I'm trying to change the fluid and filter but can't get the pan off. do i really have to take the exaust off to do the pan off? and also any suggjestions on how to fix the original problem, a sensor? or switch? its a push button 4 wheel drive.

Check the fluid level & colour, if it's low or burnt it will cause problems, it may also be the seals which will require transmission removal & overhaul

just have someone look at it. like aamco or someone that does a free diagnostic. the tranny will probably have to be rebuilt.

SOURCE: My 98 s10 is stuck in 4 wheel drive low.

Pull the kick panel on the passenger side. there is a small box mounted there that is the computer that controls the actuator for the 4wd system. this is notorious for problems due in fact that the connector likes to pull out and away from the module. I had the same problem and the solution is simple.. take a long zip tie and get it between a few of the wires and around the module. tie it in and have a nice day.. it wont come off or try to pop out anymore and you should have no issues getting into 2wd, 4wd h, 4wd L.

2002 chevy silverado 2500hd transmission slipswhen driving

sounds as if your transfer case is gonna have to be inspected via inspection port for a worn or bent "finger" this is the thing that moves gears on shaft when pushed by 2wd/4wd handle/solinoid or a worn or broken pin "the thing gears slide back n forth on" this usually occurs after the vehicle has recieved a hard Jolt as in a minor fender bender , or your out crushing rocks on the trails all day and might have been just a little too hard on it on that last hill MAybe ? they just usually don\'t break or bend without a reason known to driver

Car will start fine, brakes work but once in drive or reverse will not move, think its the transmission. Car has 350k km.

When you move the shifter into the position P,R,N,D does the indicator on the gauge light up. For example in "P" the P indictor light up, "R" the R indicator light up and so on.
If it does then you might have a bad transmission.
If the indicator stay in one position only even when you' move your shifter back and forth. You might have a broken link cable from the shifter to the trans.

My gear shift is stuck in 2 wheel drive and won't shift to 4 wheel

how long ago was the last time you shifted it into 4 wheel drive? does the selector move? if not the cable could be locked up, got corroded or could just be kinked up, it is located underneath the vehicle on top of the transmission, get it up on jackstands and with a drop iight look at the cable while having someone else try shifting it into 4 wheel drive, if where it hooks to the transmission appears to be trying to move back and forth as they are trying to move it, they cable is probably fine, check to see that the linkage is clear of any obstructions,

Service engine light is on, speedometer jumps back & forth, idles rough at stop, radio clock light dims & goes off. Just replaced alternator & car ran fine for about 4 days...then, all these...

Hi:

I am not sure if everything is related, but here are a few suggestions:

Have an auto parts store download your code from the service engile light, and see what system it is pointing too. They usually will do this for free.

Your speedometer is driven off a speed sensor, in the top of the transmission.

not sure about your clock dimming, but I would have your new alternator checked out, too, and make sure it is still charging as it should.

Hello all, I have a 2001 Chevy Suburban 5.3L with 133,000 miles on it. It starts up fine, I put it in drive, it doesn't move, put it in reverse, it backs up, put it back in drive and away we go. The rest...

trannsmission solienoids may be sticking, try some tranx, you can get at the parts store. this stuff is great. it might take a day or two but it works. for the other truck, did you have the front brakes checked, they can bind up, when you back up it frees them up.also, but not probable for 2001 check the brake hoses, they can collapse from the inside, not letting your brakes release all the way good luck
