First if you have and air ride system you first have to turn the air ride system off there is a switch on the passenager side under the glove box near the panel just infront of the door disconnect the battery and then support the car and then loose the nut on the top and then the air supply line and the bolt on the bottom and then remove the shock and if you do not have air ride system you have struts it best to replace the whole strut with springs it is a whole lot safer doing this way.go to napa or auto zone and they will down load pictures for you

one of the things i would like to suggest is to go to napa or auto zone and decide which place that has the best price for you and get the replacement parts for you car and at the same time get the pictures you need i am not sure about napa but auto zone has down loaded them for me and if you plan on keeping the suv for a while pick up yourself a service maual i have one for both of my cars.

2001 Ford Expedition F150 - the rear end of my car is sagging to the right. The leveling pump that I normally hear at the front end is still trying to pump. Any idea where I should start looking first ? ...

You could check for leaking hoses to the shocks
I would replace the 2 rear air shocks with conventional
ones & pull out the fuse for the compressor

How difficult is it to remove airbags in a 2001 ford expedition and replace with shocks?

With out seeing the vehicle, it is difficult to say. There are fuses that control the small compressor that inflates the bags, the wiring could be faulty. the compressor could be bad. The control switch could be bad, I am not sure what activates the compressor on that model, weather it is automatic load leveling or manual leveling with a switch inside the car.
It might pay to get a manual such as haines for your perticular model. Sorry I couldnt be more helpful, but electricly controled systems like this are hard to trouble shoot without seeing them.

2001 expedition air suspension 2 front air bags work and rear only one works what can it be

The best solution is to replace the air shocks with
the conventional conversions, offered by several
companies

Brand New or Older Navigators or Expeditions are not
worth the expense of diagnosing those systems, time
& time again

Most people like the ride of the conversion

Check all the big shock names on the internet

If you need more, I have auto trade publications I get free
& lots of vendors in there

Replace front shocks-- What kind of shock is best? Can I replace them without putting the car on a hoist?

YOU HAVE TO TURN OFF AIR SUSPENSION SYSTEM IF YOU HAVE AUTOMATIC LEVELING AIR SPRINGS. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS SAFELY RAISE SUPPORT VECHICLE ON JACK STANDS REMOVE THE OLD SHOCKS. PRIME NEW SHOCKS PUMP THEM UP COMPRESS PUT ON VECHICLE.DONT FORGOT TO TURN OFF AIR SUSPENSION SYSTEM FIRST IF YOU DONT THE AIR COIL SPRINGS WILL OVER EXTEND PUMP MORE AIR IN SPRINGS CAUSE DAMAGE TO AIR SPRINGS.

I have a 99 ford expedition i replaced the air compressor cause the front air shocks were bad and ruined the compressor. and teh rear air bags went flat now that the new compressor is in the rear wont air...

I have a 2001 Expedition, I don't have air bags in the front, the compressor don't work the air shocks. You have rear leveling. When they replaced the (compressor) did they turn the leveling switch back on. you may have air shocks connected to the compressor. Did the rear go down right after or over a couple of days. If the switch is on, turn it off and jack the rear up quiet a bit, make sure both side are quiet equal with each other, like it would be if it where raised by the air bags. Turn your level switch back on with it jacked up or sitting on stands. It may have went down so much that the compressor can't raise them back up.

Load leveler repair

it has hydraulic lift shocks on the rear not air if it the shock it is not really hard to change but you have to realign the vehicle when your done because this is mounted to the rear spindle with two bolts best to let a shop do it to where it is set right.
