Its not that hard to do you just need to make sure the correct wire goes to the correct plug and the correct location on the distubitor cap . You should also replace the cap and rotor at this time . Before you start take some masking tape and put it around all of the wires and number them indivudly with a marker then number the cap. Remove the old cap you will need to twist the boots on the end of the wires to brake the seal to the cap and plugs as well when you get to the plug of the wire . Replace the rotor then take the new cap line it up with the old one it will olny fit one way. Then start pluging the new wires on the new cap note the lenght of the wires because some are longer then others because some plugs are fether away from the cap . Now you have the new cap and rotor installed with the new wires on the cap the old wires are still on the plugs but there #ed . Now you need to start removeing the old wires one at a time from the plugs and by the way you should also replace the plugs because wore caps rotors and plugs is what makes the wires go bad in the first place. You will have wire keeper that control the wire path and simple clip on the wires to keep them from being burned on the exhaust manifolds reuse them to route the wires to the plugs and then just plug them on also a little diaelectric greese inside the wire boots is a good idea keeps moisture out and insures good electrical contect .If you can do this you should never have a problem with your wires again just replace your cap rotor and plugs every 50 to 60 thousand miles or so

SOURCE: How do I replace spark plugs on my 1997 Toyota

This would be too much to explain and hard to show you over the computer.
The best way and easiest way is to buy a Chilton manual for your Toyota. The book runs about $20 at an autoparts store.
This book is a do-it-yourself bible.
It will give you all the info you need to do maintenance and repair.

Spark plugs on my 1992 4x4 sr5 4runner 6cyl 3.eng auto are covered in dry carbon why

Carbon build up comes from rich mixture or weak ignition. This will cause misfiring, hesitation and hard starting. To fix the problem, change the plugs and use a plug that will produce a higher heat range. Which means it has a hotter firing/ignition when combustion. This will burn the excess gas that causes the carbon. Be sure to check the plug wires to make sure you don't have spark jumping. (check at night with engine running). Also be sure the air filter is clean.

2000 4runner Limited Sr5 Climate Control Switchout

Probably due to the wiring and set up you will need the same system.Check the plug for connection and check the buttons fpr feel on the unit as if they feel worn in the functions youre using its probably right that you think its not right ,see if you can try the same unit from another car to help diagnose the issue
