Another common problem with these vehicles is an ignition coil can fail. Make the vehicle run horrible. Lack of power, sputtering, and rough idle. This problem can occur intermittently as well. You might not be able to get a check engine code to be thrown, however it can still be on of the individual ignition coils has gone out. If you drive the vehicle long enough in the state, it should throw a check engine code which will indicate which cylinder is having issues. Change out the bad ignition coil and spark plug and should be good as newAnother common problem with these vehicles is an ignition coil can fail. Make the vehicle run horrible. Had same problem: cutting out at low rpm, jerking, a huge clunk or shudder at higher speed (like transmission was going out), and rough idle. All these symptoms were intermittent.
CHECK THE FUEL FILTER!! Changed the fuel filter and thing runs fine!!

How long since a tune up? Definitely add some fuel injector cleaner to the gas tank...maybe 2 bottles...I prefer Luca Oil injector cleaner...Walmart sells this the cheapest...also sludge in tank? Add a bottle of HEET to the gas tank to help dry up moisture,,,water...Change air filter and clean out (spray) throttle body...near the air filter inlet...also spray out mass air flow sensor...be sure to use MASS Air flow sensor spray only...does not damage the sensor...better mileage, smooth idle...hope this helps.
For me it was the inertia switch had some dirt in it pulled the connector and cleaned it out and suddenly it started working after i checked and replaced everything else
You didn't say how much fuel is in the tank when this happens. Some of these old GM cars will starve for fuel if the tank is near empty and you are braking or stopping with the car facing downhill. It could be rust or scale in the fuel tank clogging the screen around the fuel pump inlet. Sometimes, putting cleaner in the tank of an older car will only cause more debris to loosen up from the inside of the tank and make the problem worse. If the problem gets worse, I would guess tht a new fuel pump/sloat assembly is in order. You may have to have the tank removed and cleaned or replacedd with a new one to prevent the problem from reocurring.
I wanted to just give a suggestion...do you go to the same gas station to get gas? My sentra ran horrible because I kept going to this same gas station. My gas would get low and it would start cutting off and trying to cut off. I let my fuel go to almost empty and then went to another gas station to fill up. It hasnt cut of for about 6 months now and I havent returned to that gas station.
