SOURCE: no owners manual need one free, cant figure out alarm or fuse box
Is the alarm the factory alarm or is it aftermarket? If it is the factory unit try using the remote fob to turn it off (check batteries in the fob). If you lock the car door and reach in the window and open from the inside door handle it will trigger the alarm. Stick the key in the door lock and turn to unlock. It's been awhile since I looked at these Jeeps so memory may not be clear.
SOURCE: dash and shifter lights in 1996 jeep cherokee wont light
Hello and welcome to FixYa . Locate the dial that controls the brightness of the dashboardlights. If the control is not immediately evident. Make sure the brightness control is turned on. If it is and the lights aren't working, the problem may be a bad fuse. Check the fuse that controls the dashboard lights Replace the fuse if necessary. If just one part of the instrument panel is not lighting up, then you have either a burned-out bulb or a wiring problem.

Fuses first, Fan relay & coolant temperature sensor are 3 things to look at here as culprits, provided fan is o.k.
