Question about 1996 Toyota Avalon
Toyota starts without problem and idles smoothly for about 30 seconds, then idle begins to slow, and hesitates before shutting down. Pressing acelerator causes the engine to miss badly and shut down.

SOURCE: A 2007 Toyota Avalon XLS.
This is the downfall of a new toyota congrads you can relate to me i Own a 2008 Scion tC these new toyota's are driven by what is called "Drive By Wire Throttle system" there will always be a delay in the throttle response espcially in newer toyota's with an automatic transmission hence the newer ones have a 5 speed automatic transmission instead of the 4 speed automatics kind of a poor design on there end with the Drive By Wire. Sorry this is a problem that happens to be a design flaw on toyota's and some people notice it more than others.

SOURCE: throttle hesitation
Sounds like the throttle body is dirty, in my vehicles every three to four tanks of fuel in goes a bottle of heat. Even in the summer I have this ritual monthly. Try this for a couple of months and see if it improves.
