Check the dimmer switch! Head lights should still work if dimmer! But no interior dash lights! Fuse for lights is under hood in fuse center! If it is the headlights I would check the switch and if applicable the relay! I assume you have checked for ground at the light and power at the headlight fuses!! Good luck
No, I wouldn't suspect the headlight switch. Something more sinister, more surreal, too: a module, maybe a body control module, or a light control module, probably under the dash somewhere. GM began using a lighting control module (LCM) at least as far back as 1992, tucked unhandily up under the dash, and wired between the headlight switch and everything else in the lighting circuits. Normal to suspect the headlight switch, but the odd conjunction of the car running and the headlights' actions suggest a module (another computer!) may be in there. The headlight switch should have no effect on it if the engine was running or not. You would have to see a wiring diagram in a repair manual to check. I am not familiar with your Hyundai, but if you could find a diagram, you should be able to fix it. If you register for free at autozone.com, giving make, model, year and engine size of vehicle, you can access wiring diagrams and repair procedures. Just look under repair guides. Wiring diagrams were under Chassis Electrical, if I recall.
If neither your front or rear lights are coming on I would think it was a problem with the headlight switch. Even if that switch is bad, your brake lights should still work when you press on the pedal. Usually a good indication to determine if the headlight switch is the problem is to see if your dash lights are not working as well. If those aren't working it's usually the headlight switch itself. If the dash lights DO work then your headlight/tailight relay is probably defective. Swap with a similar relay to test.
If the tail lights and the dash lights stopped working and the tail light and the panel lighting fuses are both o.k. and you can find no other blown fuses then the problem is most likely the headlight switch.
Sounds like ur computer. When a computer goes out they seem to go in different ways. Also there should be main circuit relays either under the hood or on driver side dash. If you pop a main relay it will kill all main circuits to protect a circuit melt down. Hope this helps. Thanks Josh
