1995 Isuzu Rodeo Logo
Anonymous Posted on Aug 25, 2011

Hi, I am working on my dad's 1993 Rodeo. He said that the only problem was the radiator. So he had some mechanic replaced the radiator. Somebody used the car, and it overheated. The radiator is empty and now the oil and water are mixed. When I drained the oil, the color is like coffee. and my drain bucket almost got full. Is there anyway you can pinpoint the problem. I already started removing parts of the engine: left cylinder head is out already and will do some inspections. Tomorrow I will remove the right cylinder head. Please advise. Thanks in advance, Alex

Hello Alex...Anytime you have coolant in the oil and it's not the engine oil cooler it means the engine must be disassembled to locate the failure. The next options are not so pretty. There are three causes for coolant in the motor oil and all require engine dis-assembly....This can be tricky because often the repairs overlaps and it is difficult to tell which one is causing the problem....Always check the intake gasket first on V type engines. Then the cylinder head gaskets, cylinder heads, and finally the engine block...

Good luck and i hope this helps FixYa!

You give very short and to the point (and quite possibly incorrect) answers, if you're doing this to get paid you will go broke. If you're just trying to help, the customer will go broke also.

My 98' Isuzu rodeo Has just blown Head Gasket how do I repair this? following an over heat the radiator had begun to warp and oxidize around upper hose ,from runnig water-only through system just before...

If you are not very mechanically inclined leave this to a shop, head gaskets can be very complicated for some. the block can be flushed once the head is removed or even before. the fan is actuated by a sensor (usually on the radiator). Replace it since the motor got that hot. Sorry to say you may have warped the head or even cracked it if the heat was that high. You need to invest in a mechanics manual for your vehicle and read all that pertains to cylinder head R & R before you attempt any of this yourself

2000 Isuzu rodeo key turns over but wont start makes a whining noise .jumped it thought was battery but still dont work ..but everything in car comes on lights, radio, what could it be please help in...

Tow it to a mechanic, from the sound of it it's something wrong with the inside of your engine, which will be a ***** to fix. It's not the battery if it's turning over, You could be out of gas, as dumb as that sounds, some people don't check it. But I guess you would have known after 4 months of this. So right now I'm blathering about an obvious answer while you're reading this thinking to yourself "Who is this idiot and why does he know what I'm thinking?" Now, if you're still reading, I just want you to know that I also have an Isuzu Rodeo and that's what I would do. Get a mechanic to hook up a machine to it and check the entire engine out, then from there struggle to not get screwed over by any mechanic that thinks it's a good idea to over charge.

Hope it helps. . .

Will a small block chevy fit without a lot of work in a 1991 rodeo already has a 3.1 v6

No - you're looking at swapping out the transmission as well - as it will not bolt up to the existing one. Check out www.planetisuzoo.com for lots of good info on this very topic.

Car is overhaeating

did the mechanic that said that the fans assembly didn't work check out the fan switch? it is a sensor like a temp sensor that switches the fan on and off when the temp goes up in the engine.
did the mechanic tell you that the fans was working now? can you hear the fan come on when the engine temp rises? if not , it could be the switch or if the fan worked after the mechanic replaced it, it could be a wiring problem. possible faulty ground.
