How to change the water
never change more than 1/3 water volume in 12 hr period you will remove to many beneficial bacteria from water and water chemistry will be off to much making your fish sick , and change the water not just add the water lost to evaporation that means one cup out and one cup in till you change the volume you determined by size calculation
Fluorescent tube want light up completely
this is a very common thing to happen with fluorescent aquarium lights , moisture causes corrosion of contact points , corrosion causes loss of voltage in tube contacts , light does not receive the power it needs so doesn't light correctly , id retrofit a L.E.D light bar assembly right inside of your old hood held in place with some food safe silicone there avail off amazon for not a lot of money and some even give u the choice of colors as well
Can you fix the top rim of a 72 g bow front if the middle piece is broken?
if its only the top black plastic piece sure you can , id use superglue and let dry (hours not minutes) and wash it several times with water to clean residue off , (NO fish in tank or water ) if crack is to the top of actual tank < its possible with aquarium silicone but I wouldn't chance it id replace it
Replacement parts
if your heart is set on the original one you can get a replacement from aqueon , it will need to be sent from oversea's so time will take a bit , ME id just wire in a lamp cord switch to the original power cord , they only cost about five dollars and most evey hardware store's got them
Loud over flow
The "overflow" is actually the return from the filter. Try adding water to the tank until it is closer to the return level and the sound of splashing water will diminish.
72in x 29in x 24in how many gallons calculator
72 x 29 x 24 = 50,112 cubic inches / 1728* = 29 cubic feet. There are 7.48 gallons per cubic foot, so the tank is actually 216.92 gallons, assuming the dimensions given are inside measurements. I hope you have a strong stand and floor because the water alone weighs 1735.36 pounds (8 pounds per gallon).
*12 x 12 x 12 = 1728 (cubic inches to cubic feet conversion)
My filter is buzzing but no water is going through
I have this issue with my filter when I unplug it. Occasionally, I can hit the side of it a few times and it will work. The issue is that something is blocking the inside and preventing the impeller blades from spinning freely. To fix the issue I usually do three things:
- I remove the bottom pipe from my filter and tap it on the ground to free the blockage.
- I also run water from my sink through it to clean it out.
- Lastly, I use Q-tips to try to get in there and remove the gunk (I have a small filter).
Time Spent? I have spent anywhere from 5 minutes to an 1 hour cleaning out the filter with the above techniques.
Advice: Change your filter cartridge every 2 weeks or when it's covered. Don't unplug it if you can help it!Best of Luck!
Leaking
Only real way is to empty and clean and dry the tank and stand on tissue paper and fill very carefully, then wait till you see the tussie getting wet, then give that spot a good sealing.
Light unit not working after replacing bulbs
Try another wall connection or your wire connection, as well as making sure nothing is wet around the connections, and ultimately nothing is wrong with the entire lighting system.
