I was finalizing a DVD +RW. The remaining time went to zero and I expected a comment from the unit that it was finished. BUT, it froze at zero and unit would not respond to the remote or front panel buttons. I held the power button in and the unit finally shut down. When I powered up again, the unit responded with "unrecognizable disc". And that was the end of the DVD player. It gives the same response to any disc or pre-recorded disc or even a blank disc. Is it worth trying to repair this unit?

I've had the same problem with several DVDs. Some were Netflix, some where store bought, some where friends. But it was intermittent. This last time, I was watching a Netflix CD which was working well. I stopped it and when I came back to it, I couldn't start it again. So I ejected and inserted again only to have "loading" go on too long and then a message that the disk was defective. So where are the suggestions?

I've experienced the same problem as "rogermg". Tried initializing 2-dvd+r's and 2-dvd+rw's with the same "corrupt" result. Unplugged the unit for 15 seconds in hopes that it was a microprocessor reset problem, with the same results. Also did not recognize a pre-recorded media. Also tried using a "dvd/cd cleaner disc" but to no avail.I've experienced the same problem as "rogermg". Tried initializing 2-dvd+r's and 2-dvd+rw's with the same "corrupt" result. My power went off while I was initializing a disc. Now it doesn't matter what dvd I put into this machine, it doesn't recognize any of the disks. I paid $300 for this device and now it's pretty much worthless. My power went off while I was initializing a disc. A firmware upgrade is needed to make your GoVideo reads the dvds.
If you can post here the model number of your DVD/VCR, maybe we can help you find the last firmware update that the manufacturer released before they shutdown their business.
It could just be dirt on the lazer/lens. Try cleaning it with a good brand name lens cleaner for DVD/CD. If that doesn't do the trick there might be damage to the lens, or an electrical fault.
if it is doing it to differnet dvds, then its more than likely the player. you can try getting a can of compressed air and spraying the inside, or buying a cleaning disk.
try unplugging the unit for a few minutes..region 2 doesn't work on older dvd players/recorders..the newer ones may handle it...try the computer...and see if that can play it...
I have a govideo dvd vcr combo that will not read disks.
the sled runs fine, the laser works, and it seems to try to spin up, but just WILL NOT read the disks.

Thank you.
