Battery door won't close anymore on Canon A630. Is it replaceable?

  • newsdude64 Aug 10, 2008

I took the door apart (three little screws) and played with the spring that opens and closes the latch on the cover. It still works kind of hard (always has), but at least I can close it now. I'll see how long it lasts.

It is probably replaceable. I had the same problem on one of my cameras and took it into a camera shop. The guy there took some strong tape and taped it closed. He said" It would cost more to replace that little door than the price of a new camera." You could take your camera into a shop and ask them about replacement though. Yours might not be as expensive as mine would have been. You could check your manual also for replacement parts available. it might be something you could install yourself. It is worth a try and if you don't have the manual go to www.canon.com and look for manual downloads. Good luck to you.

Canon PowerShot A630. How do you take the back off the screen of a Canon A630 camera please?

Personally, I would send it to Canon for professional service. It may just be a problem with insufficient battery milliamps.

Camera acts like no batteries, doesn't turn on

Things to check first for a camera that won't turn on are battery contact points, and micro switches that are located on the battery and memory card doors. Troubleshooting tips on other things that need to be checked may be seen here. These tips won't work for every case, but they're worth a try.

I don't know how to open the battery door for the

Slide the latch in the center of the battery cover toward the front of the lens, then flip open the cover. It's hinged toward the center of the body, so it flips open in that direction.

There's an illustration in the "Preparations" section of the Basic manual (page 5 in my copy). If you need manuals, you can download them from

A630 will not power on. Says batteries are dead.

You have to clean your battery compartment contacts. To do this Dampen a Q-Tip swab with rubbing alcohol and clean the contacts well. Also you'll want to clean the battery and charger contacts as well. Thank you, Dana

Lens shutter will not close on my canon a630

If you can't take it apart and clean/repair the broken part, your best bet is to send it off to get repaired. Time & Materials would likely be under $150. If it is still under warranty via the store/Canon/credit card you bought it with, try getting it fixed/replaced via that route.

Remove battery door of Canon A630

This is an old A70, but the way it's done is very similar as I don't think this has changed much over the years. It's a pin design that you have to push out with a stiff unbent paperclip. You push in on the side with the smaller hole. To access the pin you'll need to remove the front and back case covers. See the following:
