Dell inspiron mini wont accept password...or reset password. Everything I have read says re-install...disk...no drive for disk. Also only allows to go to set up and f12...tried to reset default settings...no luck. read on your website to try pressing f8 while restarting....does not work. Can not start in safe mode.

Turning on your Dell and turning off again at the Dell logo three to four times will put the computer in automatic repair. It should also give you other options such as restore, etc.

You hard drive has DIED.

Call or chat with Dell tech support and get a replacement drive

Since the system is less that a year old, you can request a replacement drive witht eh factory image on it too.

Put recovery disk in the CD drive. On reboot, hold down F12 key. You should get a choice of drives to boot from. Make sure the first two are in the correct order:

1. CD-ROM (optical drive)
2. HDD (hard drive)

then press F10 to save and exit.

Now the laptop should boot correctly from the recovery disk.

Remove the cmos battery and unplug comptuer for about 15 to 20 minutes. install battery working battery. make sure you didn't knock any cables loose

Check ram is seated
Check video and audio cards are seated properly

Then try booting pc.

Hi there
"Unmountable Boot Volume." means that the system 32 folder has become corrupt and probably you will have to recover the system.
If you have XP CD for a clean install, you have to change the boot order from within the bios (F2 on boot up) and tell it to boot from CD.
This will change the boot order and allow you to reinstall the OS.
Be warned that you WILL loose data if this is the only option open to you.

I don't remember the log in password to my Dell Inspiron Mini 1012. How do I fix it? Most people suggest a password reset disk, but this computer does not have a place for disks.

The password disk can be 'installed' to USB drive - and the Dell Mini can boot to USB.

Forgot windows password? Don't worry about it, when I forgot the password, i remove the password by the following steps,
Step1: Download and install Windows Password Recovery Tool Professional.Step2: Burn CD/DVD/USB Flash Drive. (Namely it is to burn aWindows password reset disk.)
Step3: Set the target computer boot from CD/DVD or USB.
Step4: Remove the forgotten Windows password with the burned CD/DVD/USB. Then log on to Windows without a password.

I just bought a dell inspiron mini laptop, from a pawn shop and cannot use it bbecause they forgot to get the previous owners password so I was wondering how I can reset it or even restore the whole thing...

Download Trinity Rescue Disk and use it to make a bootable TRK USB drive. You may have to change BIOS settings to allow booting from external USB drive. Boot from the trinity rescue disk, and use the "windows password resetting" feature to remove the password from your user account.

How do I reset the admin password on a dell 1012 mini

Hello.

You can create and run a Password Reset disk.

Download and burn to CD. Copy/paste this link:

http://pogostick.net/~pnh/ntpasswd/cd080802.zip

Download this file and burn it to CD.

Put into drive and turn on PC. Boot from your CD.

Follow instructions, choose the correct USER and BLANK out the password.

Make sure you say OK to write the data, and reboot.

The Administrator logon password will now be blank.

Note: Substitute flash drive for CD, if your system doesn't have a CD drive.
