Check your charger pins First are they OK. then go for the Sony player charging point . is it clean enough that pins can make charging , if they aren't then clean with a needle. thirdly do try to use a original Sony charger as i had some players back and it wont work cause i didn't use a branded charger .cause the out put sometimes get different and they are not of slandered quality.

Are you trying to charge it through the computer? If so try through a main charger! I had similar problem but found this on Sony website -
Cause:
Battery is 100% discharged. Therefore, PC's USB with 5V/500mA set up has not enough power to start up the charging process because loading current is greater than the set up, therefore USB is disabled immediately due to sudden current load. Remedy:
Battery must not be discharged 100%
If it happens then the supplied AC adaptor must be used firstly because it is providing 5V/800mA power. After a couple of minutes the unit can be connected to PC without problem then it can continue the charging during file transfer, etc.
First of all,get another sony ericcson charger that is compatible with your phone to test if it will charge the battery
If it does then you will have to get a new charger for your phone but if it does not put your battery in another phone and charge,
If the battery charges that means the battery terminal on your phone and the battery are not in proper contact and you should Wedge the battery below at the bottom with a piece of paper that should solve the problem.
1. clean the charger port, make it free from dust and rust then try to charge. 2. the problem may be with your phone's charging port, it may be damaged. check it.
I had this problem a few days ago and now my sony nwzs18f has different problems, the way i got it to charge back up was by using a usb charger that plugs into a socket rather than into your computer this should hopfully charge it back up and also it should unfreeze the screen.
What I did when I got this error was to push the reset button on the bottom of the player itself... Mine rebooted and took a charge from the computer. Hope this all works for you.
