Monitor flickers, the monitor is really warm, there is nothing blocking the monitor air flow. I unplugged it from tower, and plugged it into laptop. The flickering stopped. Unplugged monitor and had let it cool down. replugged monitor back into tower, flickering started all over again after it got warmed up again.

Try an external monitor to the laptop and see if it flickers. If it does, more than likely your video card is going bad. If it does not flicker on the external monitor you probably have a loose video cable or lcd inverter cable. Go back inside and remove the 2 cables that go into the LCD Inverter that sits at the bottom of the LCD Screen, then plug them back in. Then unplug the video cable at the top behind the lcd screen, plug it back in and secure it with a piece of tape right where the two connections meet.
I would try shutting down the computer in the normal way, and turning off the monitor. Boot up and turn the monitor back on. If it still doesn't work, then I would check the cables and power plugs and wall plugs. Check the mouse and keyboard cable and any other cables plugged into the computer. The next step requires a seperate monitor or laptop. Try unplugging the monitor and pluging in another monitor. Most laptops have a common VGA adaptor jack or even an Svideo jack. If the other monitor does not work, Then take to a qualified technician for repair. It could be your power supply in the computer or video controller.
I hope this was useful and please comment if this was helpful to you.
Check the vent where the fan should be blowing out hot/warm air for good flow. If you don't have any air flowing, you might find that the fan inlets are plugged with dust, or the fan blades are covered with dust/fuzz. Clean all the air passages, inlets and outlets to make sure the fan can flow enough air to cool the computer. tom
ummm mabey your monitor is bad...do the num lock key or the caps lock keys light up...mabey you need a new video card..numors things can cause this delema
Pity you... take the laptop to HP service. you may need to replace the mainboard.
Try plug in a monitor to it, press together the Fn key and the one that have a monitor like icon in different color. If normal screen comes up, you are in luck - only the screen's cable to the main board is at fault.
If really nothing happen at all (no hard disk activity, no CPU fan), then replace the mainboard or get a new one.
I hope you are not using the laptop on a cloth covered table so that the air intake is blocked. this is how some connectors on the main board melts the soldering so that it's cut off (extreme hard to see by eyes).
Remove the power supply after everything is unplugged and take it to your nearest electronics store. They should have a tester there. This is probably the problem.
