Please check your motherboard or video cards website to determine if one is compatible with the other. Ensure that the video card is in the proper slot and that it is seated securely. If the video card has a power connector on it you may also need to connect that to your power supply. Of course don't forget the easy to miss things like making sure cables are plugged in, if none of that works the card may be faulty, but if it was purchased recently AMD has an excellent no-questions return policy.

Update of ATI Radeon HD 2400 is causing problems - my two screen display keeps switching to single screen since the update of Nov. 13th, 2010.

Click the START MENU, click the CONTROL PANEL. Locate the APPEARANCES AND THEMES link. Click the DISPLAY tab or MONITOR Tab. In this option, a DROP BOX MENU will be available. Click the ATI RADEON HD 2400 PRO device. It may say something similar to MULTIPLE MONITORS. After doing so, you may configure the MONITORS as to giving them a position such as MONITOR #1 AND #2. You may do this by DOUBLE CLICKING the monitor example pictures above the drop box menu to verify which monitor will be your main DISPLAY.

Installed new video card, system reboots

your current graphics card settings is not set to the correct level to match your system, you can download ATI Catalyst software from this link:
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx

after installing, you may have to restart your computer. when you restart, right click on the desktop and select (ATI catalyst), there you can adjust your graphic card features or you can use the recommended settings the software have adjusted for your graphic card by clicking on restore settings/defaults.

you should not encounter problems once you have installed the ATI software.

Display blanks after installing drivers

Try the final AMD Display Driver (version 8.31) downloaded directly from AMD for the Radeon 9250 series running in XP. It will be several years more recent than any provided in Windows XP (by Microsoft), and may just fix your problem. The fact something causes XP to identify your Radeon 9250 as a 9200 Pro shows that something is not right. You might also want to launch Device Manager, use the option to show hidden devices, and delete any "ghost" video cards. I suspect a 9200 Pro may be a ghost, which could be causing problems.

Screen going blank for a second or two while video freezes then jumps.

If you have on board graphics try removing video card and reboot when computer rebooted turn it of and refit card and restart when restarted computer should recognize new hard ware and should find the already installed drivers if not try installing drivers again
Sometimes windows does not recognize new hardware until its refitted
had this problem with modems alot and the above method solved it

Graphics Card ati radeon 2400 pro

Hi winklewee, please let me know if this video card is for a notebook or desktop PC? It would also help if you list the amount of memory on the card & type of memory.
You should update the Radeon card regardless of my request above. Click this link I have posted below for a desktop PC.
Uninstall any older drivers before installing the newer drivers. ATI/AMD come's out with new drivers quit often.
For Vista 32-Bit Edition Radeon 2400 Series (PCI-e).
http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx?p=vista32/common-vista32
For Vista 64-Bit Edition Radeon 2400 Series (PCI-e).
http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx?p=vista64/common-vista64

Try the new software first & see if Vista improves. If not think about either increasing you're system memory or increasing the memory size of a new video card.

Good Luck!
Please post the results from the updated software from ATI.
Mike
