Monitor goes blank when trying to use radeon HD 2400 Pro graphics card

I have a Dell Optiplex GX 270 Pc with and upgraded 600 watt power supply, 1.5 GB ram and running on Windows XP Pro 32-bit. I have installed a ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro(PCI) graphics card and I have installed the driver and Catalyst Control Center. When I try to use it the bios and windows loading screens appear, but once windows is loaded, the screen goes black. I know that windows is still working and hasn't crashed, but I can't see anything on my monitor. My monitor is an old Compaq 7500 series. Do I need a better monitor, or is it something else entirely?

SOURCE: Radeon X1300 card displays blank screen at logon

Hi,
Boot the system in safe mode. Go to device manager and under display adapters , right click on the onbaord graphics adapter and disable the same. It worked on one of the systems i troubleshot for the same problem.

My Radeon card isn't recognizing the monitor and Catalyst won't read its full resolution (1024 x 768).

Hello there
The HD 2400 is a pretty old card and I doubt it will give brilliant graphics.or will it run DX11
However.
1)Have you disabled the 'on-board' graphics in your BIOS settings ? Your computer will not recognise it if the old on board chip is enabled.
2) Have you tried connecting the 2400 using the 15 pin video connector ?
3) You say it isnt 'recognising' the hd2400 and yet you are saying the monitor is working at 640 !!!! Which is it. Does the monitor work on the old onboard output or the HD2400 ?
4) The version of catalyst depends on your operating system and whether 32 or 64 bit.
Use the right one via here http://support.amd.com/en-us/download
and uninstall the old one first..
5) If the monitor does not work at all on the HD2400 try the card in a different PCI slot.
6) ALWAYS check after you start the PC that in 'Device Manager' that the display adapter (hd2400) is recognised.
7) run ' DXDIAG ' to see how good the monitor is. (type in dxdiag the start orb search box)

Upgrade graphic card ?

I am not sure what games you are looking to play, but with that power supply I would not go beyond the Nvidia 9500GT or the ATI Radeon HD 3650 Both cards are pretty much equal. I really would not recommend anything under these two cards for any type of gaming. Power consumption would be about the same for both cards which would be less than 200 watts for the entire system

The HD 3650 is superior to either the HD 2400 XT or the 8500 GT

Pixel shader error 06 on my optiplex 330

Graphics Card
Minimum Requirement
VRAM (256 MB)
DirectX 9.0c / Shader 3.0
NVIDIA GeForce 6800 series
ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro

Your Dell has an Intel GMA 3000 onboard with up to 256 MB shared memory and isn't listed so probably isn't supported.

Dell optiplex gx 270 is not giving display

If you are not getting display for your Dell Optiplex GX 270, the issue may be one of three possible causes:

* The VGA cable connection between the Dell PC and the monitor, may not be seated in the VGA port correctly. To resolve this, just make sure the VGA cable is seated completely in the VGA port of the Dell computer and that also the Power cord from the monitor to the power source (i.e wall socket, power strip, surge protector, etc.) is seated securely.

* There may be an issue with the Video card in the Dell PC

* Or there may be an issue with the motherboard for this model of Dell.

To check to determine if the latter is what you are experiencing with this issue, please feel free to review this Dell Support link: Dell Optiplex GX 270 Display issue.

If you have more questions regarding this information, please feel free to reply back to this post.

Installing radeon hd 2400 pro

Verify that your Power Supply meets the requirements of the video card. Some Video Cards require a 400 Watt Video card. In some cases its always good to go higher than that, depending on how many devices are in your computer.

How old is your power supply? Some power supply's over time will not produce the same amount of wattage when it was new.

Is it possible for you to try the video card on another computer? It could have arrived DOA. In which case you may need to return it.

Good Luck

HI,
You can go into the BIOS , under onboard devices. Change the primary video controller to PCI.
refer to the following screen
http://supportapj.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim4700/sm/syssetup.htm#wp1052347

If the cards are not detected on the board. Then the problem could be of the PCIe slot .

Thanks

What videocard did you buy? You cannot add external power to it. You may have to change the Power supply unit. Check the capacity of the supply. It is recommended to have at least 700 watts of power with the new video card theses days.
