The integrated webcam on my Inspiron 1525 will not connect. Whenever I open a program such a Skype, it says that there is a problem connecting with the webcam, and to close any other programs that might be using the webcam. I have no other programs open, so I do not know how to fix the problem.

1. Instructions
   • 1 Open your browser and download Dell's Integrated Webcam Application.
     
   • 2 Run the installation once the download has completed, following the on-screen instructions.
     
   • 3 Restart your computer when prompted to do so.
     
   • 4 Open the program with which you want to use the cam (e.g. Yahoo! Messenger, AIM, Skype).
     
   • 5 Open the program's preferences (usually found under the "Tools" menu).
     
   • 6 Locate the "Video" settings. Most programs will have a tab labeled "Video" where you can adjust these settings.
     
   • 7 Select "Dell Integrated Webcam" under the heading labeled "Select Video Device" (or something similar).
     
   • 8 Establish a video chat with a contact to ensure that the webcam is working. If using a program to record your video, attempt a trial recording.
     

How are you trying to open the webcam? In skype? Or a video chat program? Does the error say anything else besides "not connected?"
Many different things could cause it to malfunction.

Reinstall the skype program if this does not help, ensure that you reinstall the camera.

Before you can use your webcam in any chat program you have to configure it to that program

Test your webcam here to make sure it broadcasts ok - Hit 'Allow' in the top window and check your cam in the left hand panel.

Its good practice to disconnect and re-connect your webcam before you start (To reboot the webcam software) - if you have been using it elsewhere the SKYPE software may have difficulty in locating it, even if you exited the previous program correctly.
The reason being, the webcam software can remain hooked-up to a program and needs to be rebooted.
Mine, I just unplug it from the USB and plug it back in to reboot the software.
If yours is integral with the computer you will have to re-start the computer, use a keyboard shortcut or disable / enable the webcam from the Device Manager.

Start Skype.
On the 'Tools' menu, click 'Options'.
In the navigation pane of the Skype 'Options' window, click 'Audio Settings'
Run down the list setting your defaults
Select your webcam as the default microphone.
Make a free test call
Click 'Save'
In the navigation pane of the Skype Options window, click Video Settings.
This will launch your webcam
Adjust quality of picture in 'Settings'
Check the correct webcam is shown as default
Click Save
Test your webcam by making a Skype test call.

Yes - no problem - you will have to download Skype - whenever you want to use a webcam in a new program you have to configure the webcam software to the chat program software

please try to uninstall your webcam and again reinstall it coz your webcam driver is accidentally corrupted. hope this will solve your problem.

its a common problem with 1525. remove webcam ventral software from programs and features and then reinstall the application from the cd. it will fix it. remember Dell web cam central

CHECK THE CONNECTION. gO TO TOOLS, INTERNET OPTIONS, SELECT CONNECTION OPTION, MAKE IT DEFAULT ALL REMOVE THE PROXY IF THERE ARE PROXY INSTALLED, THEN SELECT THE GENERAL THEN MAKE IT DEFAULT ALSOY THEN OK, THEN TRY AGAIN OPEN ANY SITE..

The location you download drivers to does not matter, windows installs them to the proper location. Either the cam or the connecting cable has failed.
