The battery power is routed through the starter on your car. If your starter connections are wrong or you blew a fuselink while changing the starter, you will get no power at the ignition switch. Double check your starter connections and test also for a blown fuselink.

I think its meant to pick up the power from another cable onto the starter motor conenction,or in plain english you have left a cable off the big terminal connection

99 chevy monte carlo was running fine, then one day it didnt start, no lights or power from battery. What could this be?

Possible Problems 1. Battery dead (if the horn does not blow then that's what it is) 2. Alternator is malfunctioning (the thingy that makes the sound when you turn the key in the ignition)

If you can bypass the solenoid by "jumping" the solenoid, then replace the solenoid. You could also check your starter relay, and starter fuse.

Is it possible to bypass the ignition switch on a 1995 MonteCarlo

It could be the key. It has a Pass lock system with the chip in the key. Have the chevy dealer service department check the key for resistance. You cannot use a "copy" key cut at the hardware store. If you get a replacement key from the dealer the car might crank and start.

Won't start getting nothing when i turn key

Recheck all your connections, battery. starter, look for fuseable link on small wire going to starter. Might want to chk.that wire with test light when key switch is in start position and see if it lights. If it does not light might be starter switch under dash on steering colume.

Starter continues turning after I release the key.87 monte carlo

Hi, Check and make sure the starter relay is not sticking. If it is not, then the bendix in the starter is probably bad or not shimmed properly. You can check the starter when you remove it, be careful of the torque. Good Luck to you. Hope this Fixsya!
