Computer has become very very slow. Reformated and reloaded operating system took forevery to reload (2 hours). Is this a hard disk problem

It _could_ be a disk-drive problem -- excessive "retry" operations within the disk-drive, while trying to write data to the disk-drive, or while trying to read from the disk-drive.

Search online for "Hitachi Drive Fitness" testing software, and run it.

If the disk-drive is "out-of-warranty", consider replacing it, before it completely "fails".

I am replacing a Hitachi Travelstar 5K100 HTS541080G9SA00 80GB with a Western Digital 500GB SATA 3Gb/s Hard Drive 8MB 5400RPM 2.5IN Scorpio Blue. A tech told me to use a cloning software to switch the...

You would need to use a "usb" to hard drive cable. It looks like this: http://gizmodo.com/168149/brando-sataeide-to-usb-20-cable

Then, it is simply a matter of "cloning." The other alternative is to find a pc repair shop with a hard drive duplicator. It will copy much faster.

Hi where is the jumper to put the hard drive into slave position on a hitachi TRAVELSTAR HTS541080G9SA00 ? I cannot find it Many thanks best regards

Hi
There are no jumpers to set on a SATA drive since they all use individual interfaces with the motherboard.
All you can do is connect the drive you want as master to the first SATA header, slave to the second, and then set the boot priority in BIOS.
They don't have jumper pins like the old days.
Post again if you have questions, and if this helps would you rate my post?

Replacing laptop HD

Spend the money and go with a 7200 rpm drive, 160, 320, or 250 gb hard drives are all under 100 bucks these days.

Hitachi Travelstar HTS541010G9SA00

Hi,

No the drive is not customized at all. It is a standard SATA Data and Power connector. However, if it was already mounted in a laptop chances are the laptop manufacturer may have put an adapter on the connector end to allow for tight right angle insertion into the laptop chassis which isn't possible with the stock connectors without leaving the drive loose in it's slot.

If this is the case grabbing the connector and pulling straight away from the drive should pop it loose and reveal the stock SATA connectors under it.

If you're having troubles removing this peice, comment back with the make and model# of the laptop it came out of and I'll see if I can pull a diagram for you.

Unusable drive with bad sectors in drives service area

I would temporarily attach it directly to your laptop and go into recovery console and do a chkdsk /r on that drive

see if that helps, if not then there are things you can do.
