The gas valve needs replacing

  • Anonymous Dec 09, 2010

I cannot see a valve listed as a spare part only a tap and an analyser

  • pamandpaul Dec 10, 2010

You will find the problem is the thermocouple its the small bullet looking piece that is by the pilot light..What this does is turn the gas of if the flame is blown out and when the thermocouple cooles down it shuts the gas off but if you have a faulty one it thinks its cold all the time and will not allow gas through the valve after you release the knob.If your handy there easy to replace and fairly cheap ebay??

Thermo couple next to pilot light is either not in the pilot flame, or needs replacing.

When I try to switch my calor gas heater off it is still staying on with one grid burning. I have to switch it off with the gas bottle. Is this normal please?

Question edited into some sentences.

It is normal for one panel to stay lit for a short time as residual gas is used up behind the panel and in the pipe. It should eventually go out with a 'pop'. If it doesn't, then the control knob is faulty.

I have a new DeLonghi Gas heater but once I've lit it, the flame just goes out. I've just bought another heater because the 3 year old one did exactly the same thing.

I'm sure that you read the directions and you are holding the button for a full minute.

1) Try blowing it out with a hair dryer. Dust does lots of weird things to gas heaters.

2) There is a thermocouple that opens when it is hot and makes the gas keep flowing. It is a small metal tube that sits directly in the flame. When it heats up, the gas flows. If that is shot, then it won't keep the gas flowing, so it will turn off when you let go of the button. Try tapping it lightly with the tip of a screwdriver to knock it loose. There is about a 10% chance that this might fix it temporarily until you can get a new one.

The heater will light then you let the knob go and the gas goes out even after leaving alight for several minutes. I have lubricated the gas controlled and there is full movement it is approximately 12...

Lea, the problem is not the gas control valve. It's the Thermocouple that needs replacing. When the Thermocouple fails, the pilot flame will not stay lit. The Thermocouple is a safety feature that stops the gas, if the pilot flame goes out for any reason. If you've never replaced it before, I'm surprised the original one has last for 10 years.

Hope this helped you solve the problem.

I have a Heat Dragon (rlp50) and it won't stay lit unless the control knob is pushed in all the time.

Sounds like the thermocouple is bad. Pushing the knob bypasses the thermocouple and permits ignition once you let go after thirty seconds it is supposed to stay lit. This is common with heaters.

Quattro Plus heater will not stay alight

Does this unit have a thermocoupling?

If so replace it. (6 bucks)
It is the units flame sensor and they routinely go bad.
When they no longer sense flame the unit will shut off gas to the ignitor/burner.
It will only stay lit when you are manualy holding the button.
