I have a radio shack 43-3808A answering machine. I want to get messages from a remote phone. The directions in my manual say to enter the security code after receiving the two tones. The machine makes a tone beginning the incoming message, and at the end of the incoming message. If I enter the security code of "123" followed by the command code of "2#" after the first tone or after the second tone, it does not work. I am not using a battery; does the remote checking of calls depend on there being a battery? Can you help?

To put the message in a specific mail box, the caller needs to press *1, *2 or *3 (touch tone phone) before leaving their message. (Of course the answering system has to pick up before the key stroke.) Obviously the number corresponds to the mail box that will get the message.

So if you want to include these directions in your outgoing message, you would need to add something like "To leave a message for John press Star 1, for Sam press Star 2" when you record the ogm.

1. Dial your phone number.

2. When your outgoing message is playing, enter your remote operation security code. Bd appears on the display to indicate the system is in remote mode.

If there are no new messages, you hear three beeps.
These are the remote codes available to you:

2 # Play all messages.
2 5 Play new messages.
3 # Delete all old messages.
7 # Record new outgoing message.
7 # Stop recording outgoing message.
8 # Record memo.
8 # Stop recording memo.
9 # Turn system off/on.
0 # Monitor the room..

The code is NOT changeable as near as I can tell. It is written on a label on your unit.

When it answers, after it plays the message, you should type in that 3 digit code. Suppose it is 123.

You should type in 123 and then immediately enter the command you want.

Try 9# to record a memo, and see if it records. That is, type 1239#, and you should be able to record a memo I think the two tones is a misprint. Most of the time you enter the code either while the outgoing message is playing, or immediately after the outgoing message finishes.

Full remote operation means you can retrieve, delete and save messages or change announcements from any touch-tone phone. just press the full remote option and check out for the  deleted message in it.it will show up if it still saved in memory.

Check if message retrieval works with a landline phone. If that works, then either the tones generated by your cellph are too far off frequency, or the cell network is filtering out or compressing too much of the tones.
