Samsung SCH-u740 problem - front screen stays on and speakerphone switches automatically

I've had my phone for about 4 months. Within the past two days, after no memorable trauma like dropping or getting wet, my phone's front display screen stays lit at all times instead of shutting off after a few seconds like it used to. I've tried to adjust the settings but nothing turns it off completely.

Also, the speakerphone will turn on and off repeatedly, on it's own during a call or even when the phone is just on.

The text message notification sound also cuts itself off before it finishes vibrating.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have the same problem. The front screen is staying illuminated and the side buttons for the volume don't work anymore. Mine got a little wet (sweaty) when I was running a couple days ago but I didn't think that was enough to break it.

Just as many have written, the front and inside display do not turn off when the phone is sitting idle.

I would recommend a hard-reset of the device. Keep in mind that this will delete all of your contact information and customized settings.

On a side note, be careful not to accidentally press the speaker-phone button on the right side of the phone during a call. I used to have this phone and I would sometimes do it without even realizing it.

It seems like the inside screen stays on as well. Does the phone know its closed?

My earphone speaker doesnt work - only the speakerphone works on my SCH-U740. there is no icon indicating the speaker is on/off so pressing the right side button is of no use.

There must be a solution to this very common problem, WHAT IS IT???
Please help me, I just want to know where to take it for repair or directions how I can do it myself and where can I find replacement parts. Come on, maybe Samsung should recall the SCH-U740 and take on the costly $amount$. After purchasing the SCH-u740 Cellular Phone consumers should not have to pay for expert advice, thats what customer service and satisfaction is all about.

Switched to NAM2 and do not know the lock code.

Dial *22899 and press SEND to program the phone.
after it has finished downloading the programming information, the phone will reset.
The Lock code will now be set to the last 4 digits of your phone number.
when you have finished, be sure to switch back to NAM1 and dial *22899 again to re-program it.
