I have a Rival Ice cream maker that doesn't or has never worked.

L recieved a rival ice cream maker of which I have used 3 times. Each time the ice cream would not set up and metal shavings were found ontop of the container. Obviously the machine was defective from the start. It was a gaift, so I don't have pruchase info, but do have the boxd it came in. Can I send it to Rival for a replacement?
