Disc drive noise

My daughter's 9-month old Dell Studio 1537 disc drive makes grinding noise on startup and shutdown. It also spits back out every disc you put in after making the same grinding/clicking noise. Am I totally hosed or what?

I knew I should've bought her a Mac!

My burner won't burn in my dell Studio 1537

Inside the DVD drive is a laser optical eye. This eye get's dirty.

Suggest remove ALL power, then open DVD drive tray. Use a can of compressed air for computers to clean, and aim down towards the bottom of the tray.
(Remove AC adapter {Charger}, and Battery)

Disk cleaners have the tendency to wipe the 'gunk' off, then wipe it back on.

Also make sure you still have burner software. Nothing like going to use the DVD burner one day, only to find the Nero burner software was just a trial.

It's FREE, and NOT a trial.

Plus a DVD drive is mechanical. Wears out over time. Has a 'Life Cycle'.

Just an example. You may find a better price from another reputable dealer.

The DVD drive is held in with ONE screw,

DVD wont load. Makes noise then ejects

Could be a faulty disc, your drive is not capable of reading your type of disc or the drive is busted.

When i insert a cd or dvd the drive makes funny noises then ejects the disc. I have a Dell Studio 1537 with Vista, drive is " PLDS DVD+-RW DL-8ATS ATA"

this happens while on windows right? so try outside windows. what i mean is restart computer then keep tapping on f2 to boot in bios setup. then from there insert the cd/dvd check still has the problem. if yes they follow these steps http://tinyurl.com/ya7q9b

still not fix try to loosen the screws from the bottom part of the laptop. if still fails then have dvd drive replaced.

Making crakling sound and spits cd back out. won't

Hi,

First thing you should do was to do a diagnostic in F12 run the diagnostic for CD DVD so that you could verify the functionality of the parts. It's still in warranty you can still asked for repair or system exchange .

My dell studio laptop (one month old) has problems playing dvds

It sounds like you have eliminated a media player problem.

Here are some more things you could try:

Disable your antivirus when playing the movie.

Have Dell replace CD/DVD drive. I got a bad drive in my new Latitude and they replaced it. It was a long phone call...be prepared.

It could be overheating. Make sure you have good air flow under the notebook. They make notebook coolers which you can find with a web search.

If this helps please vote for my solution.
