I need a gas tank for a Craftsman 242-27006 shredder-chipper

IS THIS GAS TANK MOUNTED ON THE SIDE OF THE MOTOR AND IF SO I MAY HAVE A GAS TANK FOR THIS UNIT

what chipper is it btw? Like few websites have some manuals better while some have other brands better

i have a chipper and it started giving lot of problems 4 yrs ago, so I got this free Pdf manual from reliable-store for free and I don't think Ive visited a mechanic or fixya for help for more than 3-4 times out of the 20 times I fixed the chipper in these 4 years

TroyBilt no longer wants anything to do with their older chipper shredders, so no luck there. However, it is a Briggs and Stratton engine and gas tank and I just called them at 800 743 4115 and ordered a replacement gas tank. They will need the engine numbers (on the opposite side of the gas tank below the muffler) to find the gas tank part number. Mike Ryan

Looking at a picture of this design, the corner of the gas tank comes close to the heat shield that houses the muffler which gets very hot. The heat shield is supposed to stay cooler than the muffler because it has ventilation slots, but perhaps it got clogged up with debris and dirt, which is always flying around a chipper unit. Take compressed air and blow out the heat shield area. This may reduce the risk of a recurrence, but I have to agree with your safety concerns about this equipment.

It takes good gas, good spark, and good air for a gasoline engine to run well. The next thing I would do is put a new air filter in it.

Squirt a couple of spoonfuls of oil into the spark plug hole to increase the compression as it has been sitting so long. Also squirt a little starting fluid into the carb. and give it a shot I think it will start. Hope this will. donnyb60
