I was sold a Sony dvp-fx921 Portable DVD Player in the usa and was assured that it was multi region but have now found out that it is locked ar region 1 i have tried to have this unlocked to region 2 or multi region but cannot find anybody that can do this can you helo olease regards Brian

The SONY DVP FX720 is region free. SONY is notorious for putting out DVD players that will not play all types of DVDs.

This model is apparently hardwired to play only Region 1 (USA, Canada, Bermuda and US Territories) or All-region disks. (Some of the older players allowed you to change the region up to five times; on the fifth change, the last region selected becomes permanent.) You would need to get a Region 4 player to play Brazilian DVDs. Note: the region refers only to the area where the disks are sold; you can take Region 1 disks to Brazil and play them on this unit so long as you don't have trouble with import laws.

It is theoretically possible to hack the firmware to defeat or change the region code, but you would probably have to change the ROM chip to a custom-programmed ROM to do it. You could probably buy another DVD player for much less than the cost of the equipment needed to do the hack.
