My Explorist 210 does not connect with any computer. What can I do.

Hello,
What is happening is your computers are not recognizing your unit. Means you have to update unit via the registered site for updates.
Hello,

first Perform a hardware reset to return the minor settings of the GPS to the original condition. Press the small "Reset" button on the side of the unit for several seconds until it powers off and powers back on.

If that doesn't solve the problem, then it means you will have to perform a firmware upgrade to put the GPS back in order.

Download and install the Content Manager software available for free from the Magellan support website. Connect your GPS to your computer with a USB cable, and the software will automatically search for firmware updates for your GPS.

Here is support to copy and paste in your browser for Magellan.

Need new screen for magellon explorist 100 gps

http://cgi.ebay.com/Magellan-eXplorist-100-200-210-300-400-LCD-Screen-/350437050321?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5197ad07d1

My recommendation would be simply to replace entire unit unless you have experience fixing electronics.

We have a Magellan Explorist GC that we have had for only a couple of months. It freezes when turning on. The Magellan name comes up and the spinning compass thing, but then the spinning thing just...

I had the same problem. Was able to fix it as follows:
1. Turn unit off (pull battery if on/off won't respond) 2. Plug unit into PC with USB cable 3. Hold the menu key and the joystick in the "up" position and power unit on. Make sure you H O L D all three buttons as described until unit is fully powered on. 4. This should allow the unit to go into maintenance/disk access mode. Go to the Magellan website and download the newer version of the system (ver 1.4 as of this post). 5. Follow the install directions.
After doing this, my unit came back on just fine. From what I've read, ver 1.0 of the system has some issues.

Cannot recharge battery on my explorist 400 gps

I had the same problem with mine, the AC adapter fails really quickly. Try to go to Radio Shack and get the 3-12v switch able AC adapter that is 1 amp, and select the 4.5 volt setting. This setting is a whole .5 volts less than the one that comes with GPS, but its the Amps that matters. Make sure you get the correct plug with the adapter, I got the "B" plug and follow the directions that came with the adapter to match the right polarity, or you will fry your GPS. Also, the computer just supplies enough power to run the GPS, but not to charge it as long as you have the USB 2.0 ports.

Screen is out

A black screen, actually purple, means that a firmware upgrade was unsuccessful. You can try to fix it by reloading the firmware, but you are most likely not going to be successful using the USB 'binary'firmware that is available.

There is some 'text' HEX firmware available on the yahoo Explorist user group. To use it though, with your USB cable, you will need to make a small circuit with 1 chip. That site shows how to do it. I am in the process of doing that for an Explorist 400 for a friend. Others have said this is the only to recover such a lost GPS. I'll keep you informed of my success when it happens. I'll probably be sending the circuit/cable I build along to other friends but could possibly fix your for you if you like.

Replacement keypad membrane

If you look on magellan website it states they no longer have or support replacement parts for older gps models.
You can find an explorist for parts on ebay.
I own a explorist 100, 400, 500. I believe the key pads are all the same. If you can not find one, I will sell you the pad from the explorist 100 for 30 dollars plus shipping.

Magellan explorist 600 gps with windows xp

It is more than likely a defective USB cable. I am on my third cable. They don't stand up to the abuse.

No communication with computer

I would try downloading the USB driver from magellan (if they offer it).  You may also be able to get the driver from C-Map USA as the do the map software for magellan.
