Powerpoint 2007 won't open in Vista I have been using Office '07 on XP fine for years, but we have a (fairly new, @ 4 months old) laptop with Vista Home Premium SP2 and Powerpoint won't open when double-clicking an existing PP file. PP opens, as in the process is running in Task Manager, but the application itself does not show/open. PP will open via Start > Programs, so I initially ruled it down to the PP's that I was trying to open from other locations (i.e., the PP folder we have on the laptop) not being in the ''Trusted Locations'' in the Trust Center. So, I added the folder and its subfolders which works until you reboot. I've tried adding even the subfolders separately but none work after a reboot. What am I missing, please? Thanks in advance! ~Tina

    Nope...interestingly enough, Office is not listed there! PP Viewer 07 and 97 are (needed for Media Shout presentation software), but no Office in sight! Hmmm...I don't understand...the program is activated and legit and runs otherwise...weird!

Have you tried going to programs in control panel and repair office?

  • Anonymous Jan 11, 2010

    If it is not listed there then it is not installed correctly. You must reinstall it and verify that it shows up in that list otherwise it is not registered with the operating system.

Compatibility Pack for MS Office, doc to docx, ppt to pptx, xls to xlsx

This tip is all about the compatibility issues between the Office 2000, Office XP, or Office 2003 with Office 2007. Because all programs in Office 2000, Office XP, or Office 2003 used the old file extensions for its different programs. For example Word 2000 saved files with extension .doc, Excel 2000 with .xls and PowerPoint 2000 with .ppt. but on the other Office 2007 used the new file extensions for its different programs. For example Word 2007 saved files with extension .docx, Excel 2007 with .xlsx and PowerPoint 2007 with .pptx. Now the problem is that when you will try to open Office 2007 files into Office 2000, Office XP, or Office 2003 you will not open the file due to compatibility issues between both office versions (before 2007 and after 2007). Microsoft provides a free compatibility pack to convert Office 2007 documents to the Office 2000, Office XP, or Office 2003 format. There are many third party free converter are available but here we are using Microsoft office compatibility pack.

Please follow the given link to download free Microsoft compatibility pack -

Just install the compatibility pack after downloading........

What is product key while entering using word and what i can type for product key

Microsoft Office Product Activation issue Work around
Once Microsoft Office 2007 has been installed with no product key, proceed with the following steps:
1. In Windows Explorer, brose to the following folder:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\OFFICE12\Office Setup Controller\Proof.en\
2. Right click on Proof.XML file, select "Open With…" in the right click menu.
3. In the "Open With" window, select Notepad to be used to open the XML file. In Vista, if you can’t see the Notepad option, simply double click the "Other Programs" to unhide it.
4. Scroll down to the bottom of the Proof.XML to locate the following lines:
</Feature> <Feature Id="SetupXmlFiles" Cost="1248′>
<OptionRef Id="AlwaysInstalled"/>
</Feature>
5. Change the AlwaysInsalled to neverInstalled so that the line looks like following:
<OptionRef Id="neverInstalled"/>
6. Save the Proof.xml file. In Windows Vista, you may need to take ownership and grant full access permission to yourself before able to modify the file.
7. You can now launch Microsoft Office 2007 application such as Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook and etc without prompting for activation.
As usual, as it’s a hack, and before you purchase a valid product key for it, you won’t be able to AND can’t access any updates or Microsoft Office Online.

Between 2003 and 2007, the default font for MS Office was changed to Calibri. If the file has the font set as <default> rather than specifically set to, say, Arial, 2007 may re-interpret the default font, which can mess up your formatting.

Please give me detail steps involved if you were able to successfully use this mehod to convert files....

Say you got tons of Excel sheets, PowerPoint presentations and Word documents on your computer that were written in Office XP or 2003. How do you convert all these files to the new Office 2007 format. One option is that you open all of them in the associated Office program and manually save them in the newer (docx, xlsx or pptx) format. Or follow these steps and convert all documents in one go.
Step 1: Download Migration Manager kit and extract it into a new folder – say: c:\office.
officepack.png
Step 2: Download and install the Office Pack – this step is required even if you have Microsoft Office 2007 already installed on your computer.
Step 3: Assuming that you extracted the Office Manager files in c:\office directory, go c:\office\tools, open ofc.ini using notepad and add the following line.
fldr=c:\users\labnol\documents
This refers to the folder location that holds your office files. I am pointing this to my Documents folder but it could be different on your machine.
Step 4: Open command prompt and go to c:\office\tools. There you’ll see a utility called ofc.exe – this is the Office File Converter that will convert all old Office files to the new 2007 Office document format in bulk. Run.
convertdocs.png
Immediately all old Office files in that folder (and sub-folders) will get converted to the new format and are saved in a new folder.
This utility works with Word (doc to docx), Access databases, PowerPoint (ppt to pptx), Visio diagrams, Excel (xls to xlsx) and Microsoft Project files. The conversion may however fail for password protected documents.
