Unless you are a camera guru my strongest advice is to have a professional take it apart to look at it. You could have very well have only broken the flash bulb or caused a connection to lose its seat on the circuit.
Shake the camera gently and listen to the flash for the "jingle" of broken glass. If you hear nothing, and are comfortable with taking the camera apart, unscrew the flash housing and check to see that the wires are all still well connected.

I found a homemade video online that showed how to fix it. It showed how to dissassemble the flash and repair a spring that sometimes jumps out of place. The particular piece that holds that spring in place was broken when our camera hit the floor. I have rigged up a piece of plastic that has it working again....at least for the moment. it will ultimately need some parts replaced. Thanks anyway to whoever offered the above solution.
