Orion model 1929

I do not have the original remote and need to know how to access the menu in order to select cable TV. The only buttons on the fron are power, volume and channel. The universal remote will not pull up the menu.

I have an Orion 19"

You usually need the original remote. The trouble with universal remotes is that they generally control only the basic functions of a TV (power, volume, channel) but not much else. Without the original, you often lose other functions. You can try the front panel buttons if yours has them. On some sets the on-screen menus allow you to access caption settings.

But are you sure the captions are coming from the TV? Sure, the TV is displaying them, but if you have a satellite receiver, cable box or digital set-top box, the captions may be coming from that device. This is likely to be true if the captions just mysteriously started and you don't have or aren't using the TV original remote. These devices often don't allow a TV's built-in caption decoder to work properly, so they provide captions themselves. You may have turned captions on using that device's remote. Check the menu for caption controls.

I do not know how to turn off the closed captioning on my son's orion tv set. I do not know the model type. I do know that closed captioning options are not on the menu.

If you have the original remote look for a button labeled "CC" or "Caption/Text" press this button till the screen says caption off.

Tuning in my orion tv

Do you just mean to select channels, or do you need to have it search for active channels (programming mode)? If just select channels, then most remotes have channel up & down buttons, in addition to the number pad. To select by numbers, use 2 digits: 04, 06, 08, 10, 22 and so forth.

If the set needs to be placed in the setup or autoprogram mode to search for active channels, then the menu functions must be used.

You may be able to find an online manual on Orion's website. Use your TV model number.

I need to program my tv to Cable but I don't have a remote

You'll need to get a universal remote if not the original... The original can be purchased from places like anyremote.com and a good universal from Radio Shack... I'd strongly recommend getting the original because some features are ONLY accessible through the original remote. Good Luck! Bill
