The countryman E6 mic caused a loud bang during use.

The Pastor was speaking and out of the blue there was a loud "bang" from the Countryman mic, what do you think would cause that? It happened more than twice in the same service. I took it in to be checked, I was told there was a bad cold weld area which was repaired. The next Sunday the same problem.

It appears that the "bang" was the result of a static discharge from the mic boom. I trust it doesn't happen again.

We use a Countryman E5 for our Pastor. We are getting a ocasional crackling sound. I have checked all of the connections and we always start with fresh batteries.

It is common to get a crackling sound from the mic brushing against hairs or fibers on a shirt. Make sure the mic is taped to the face to avoid rubbing against anything.

Countryman mic getting a noise like a white noise generator sounds but it comes and goes. What can I do about it?

Serious crackle or noise is a different problem, but a lesser, rustling crackle is very common with these mics. If you aren't looping the cable close to the mic, you will run into issues.

What you have to do, is put a small, 1/2' loop in the cable, making sure that the looped part of the cable is touching the initial part of the cable. Affix them so they stay that way throughout your performance/production. The closer you get the loop to the mic, the better.

As a test, take the mic, hook it up to equipment and listen on headphones. Start handling the mic, mainly by rubbing the cable, or rub the cable with various fabrics, listening for the rustle. Then put the loop in it and do the same thing. It is amazing how much more quiet it becomes. Try it with the loop half way down the cable and handle the cable above and below the loop. you can hear the rustling above the loop, but not below.

This model HAS to have that loop for quiet audio.

Hi We use a Samson UT-5 at my church. Recently it seems like there is static/buzzing noise whenever our priest touches the connector. Is there a connector problem or should we take it to a repair store...

That sounds like a floating ground problem.
The UT-5 is a beltpack transmitter, right? What microphone do you have plugged in to it? We use a Countryman headset with a Sony beltpack, and there are components inside the connector for our setup.

Try unplugging the microphone and see if you can make the beltpack buzz without a microphone. If so, then it's in the beltpack. If not, it might be the mic cable.

Is there way to tell if the e6 mic is having

You likely broke one of the 4 wires between the circuit board in the pack and the connector for the mic when you replaced the antenna lead. These leads are hard to work on and the solder can pull away. They can appear to be connected and not quite touching... a gentle tug to test each one!!!

Countyman E6 "crackels".

Replacement caps are available from countryman directly. The noise is usually indicative of a cable problem. Check the wires where they enter the capsude and at the connector end as well. I believe that countryman has a "refurb" rpogram where they will replace the cable for a nominal fee (much less than a replacement). Caution should be used when storing the mics such that the cables don't get tangled or crimped.

I have no sound from my E6

Check the headset closely around the mic capsule and ear attachment for placing the mic on your ear. This is prone to problems from bending the mic to fit different people. You may find a break in the metal under clear rubber material. Also the cable itself could have a problem. Countryman sells the cable and it unplugs rather easily. There is a junction in the cable that is actually a plug. You can pull it apart there. Be careful as the mic is very expensive. Also countryman provides excellent technical support. Good luck.

A little more info on our poblem

The problem may be resolved by placing a 330 PF capacitor across the mic's two input lines. With countryman you cannot access the mic capsule easliy so it is best to take the TA5F connector apart,( this would be the connector that plugs into the beltpack) and place the capacitor across the two lines. LECTROSONICS.COM has the capacitors and a wiring diagram to help solve this. The part number for the capacitor is SCC330P

Good Luck!

Popping over the house speakers.

Has it always done this or recently started?
Try to determine if the popping is coming from the words spoken into it, or if you get popping from simply moving the mic and cable around. if you get popping from simple movement, there is a chance that the mic needs to be replaced. We use these in our church, and over the last 6 years I've had to replace about 6 of them...sometimes they go bad in the wire, sometimes inside of the mic. The wires are so thin, excessive use wears them out sometimes. Depending on the model countryman that you are using...I've seen them become disconnected where the mic. meets the wire...some can disconnect here beneath a rubber coupling...if you have this model, make sure that it is properly seated.
If there are no shorts in the mic or cable, and you only hear the popping while speaking into it, you may need to filter out the low end on this channel only (everything below about 120hz - 180hz)...and try using a wind shield to help control this.
Hard to troubleshoot without being there, but I hope this gives you a few good ideas.
