The problem is that the battery flexes out whenever you press down on the keypad. This is a problem with the design. What I did was put a piece of paper between the battery and the battery cover, to hold the battery down so it can't move. It works fine.
Maybe a bad battery, txting takes up more battery power than other things, i would take it back to the place where you bought it and have them look at it

the button is probably dirty inside the phone. I had a razr that had that problem BAD... I had to rebuild it several times. The last time I did it I spent ten hours, and when I was done it was so loud that I had the volume less than half and when it rang my wife and I both jumped off the couch.... I had problems with the volume buttons on the side as well.
text is considered data. Pick a plan that allows enough text messaging for your use. Each provider has price plans. The phone you are buying from your friend may not be your best bet. Some providers offer free phones with a 2 year contract. The phone your friend is selling is most likely locked to a provider.
dqauto, I have this exact same problem. It's been happening for the past couple months. The only thing I can think of is that the software is no longer supported because its so old. I dont want to get rid of the phone but not be able to recieve texts is a big issue. Please let me know if you find any answers, im sure there are others with the same problem.
Hit "menu" Go to "sounds" go to "ringer type" select "calls" select "downloaded"
Any saved sounds that you have in the phone will be here. If they are not there, and you received them in a pic or text msg, you will need to go back to that msg and choose "save sound" in the options.
I've noticed that it resets or shuts off when trying to delete ringtones.
