Do the dsl modem have to be connected to an isp before the ethernet light comes on. i started service with att and i have a modem westell 6100 i purchased before from them and i still have the software but when i put the cords on the ethernet light won't come on is it because the service is still in being hooked up?

No. The ethernet light should comes on right away when you plug modem if there is something plug in. There is a but. But if your dsl light is still flashing and not staying solid it is your isp problem.

The reason why your internet light is red for the westell model 6100 is because it is not yet configure. You need to access the gui of this modem. Enter the username and password for your internet connection. You will get the username and password from your ISP. You can contact your ISP provider so they can walk you through for the steps on how to configure your new router.
It means that the router has been reset, access the gui of the modem by accessing Open a browser application and enter 192.168.1.254 from there yuo can configure the modem according to your ISP settings.
Hi, You are using westell modem that means your internet service provider must be DSL.You will need to make sure that your computer is able to go online when connected to the modem. that will decide the type of ISP connection. Click Here for more info on how to set up the router.
check the LAN drivers..if possible reinstall them..do a complete powercycle.of the system.
Switch of the pc-modem-router..wait for 1 minute then switch on the router/modem wait for all light to come back-switch on the pc..if intermet light is blinking there might be an issue at the ISP's end.
Blinking light means that firmware on your DSL modem just got updated. The modem is pinging the Networ/Computer connected to it. If you open your Modem Page 192.168.1.1 you will see the difference, unless you never have done it before.
First check if your computer can get on the modem with an Ethernet ( This is to find out if your router will work with your modem) If you cannot get on give your ISP a call to have them configure the modem for Ethernet connection. Make sure you have internet. The ethernet light is blinking because what ever u have plugged into it is talking to the modem. The modem will then take that request and ask for it on the DSL/internet line. Make sure the DSL light is steady on and the internet light is on or flashing with activity.
