My ethernet light is blinking

I have a Westell 6100 and my ethernet light started blinking recently.   I cannot seem to connect to the internet nor can I get to my email server.   Why would this light be blinking and why would this prevent me from connecting?

I have noticed that my Westell has a problem where the Ethernet light is blinking because there is a problem with the ethernet connection to the modem. I have to physically push down on the yellow cable right at the modem connection to keep the Ethernet light on sometimes. Sounds like a defect on my modem - maybe this is a defect on others as well?

Make sure you have internet. The ethernet light is blinking because what ever u have plugged into it is talking to the modem. The modem will then take that request and ask for it on the DSL/internet line. Make sure the DSL light is steady on and the internet light is on or flashing with activity.

The ethernet light is blinking because you are unable to dial out. Try plugging a phone in and see if you can dial out. If so the problem is in your long distance service or telephone line not the modem.

Check for the connectivity... also check whether the filters are attached properly to all the analog devices... such as phone , alarm .. fax
