This is a known issue with initial releases of Windows Vista. If you have a Windows Vista DVD ROM you can boot your laptop with it and choose to repair Windows.

If chkdisk or repair is not helpful then unfortunately, there is no other repair procedure.

You will have to manually back-up your data by removing the hard drive and connecting it to another computer. After that, format the hard drive and reinstall Vista.

Remember to install latest service packs and updates from Microsoft download center.

My Acer Aspire 7730ZG had Windows Vista on it and it was fine yesterday, but when I turned on my laptop today there's nothing. Just a blank page. I have the installation disks for Windows Vista

Could you describe what exactly you are seeing when you try to turn your computer on? (blank screen, curser blinking in upper rt corner.....)
My first instinct would be to insert windows disk (while the computer is on of course) then restart and keep pressing f12 until you get a boot menu. Choose to boot from your optical drive and choose "repair"
If this doesn't help, please post a comment letting me know what happened and I will be happy to offer further advise.

When your computer is first booting, try tapping F12 to get to the boot menu. Once there, boot from the Vista installation disk- you may need to fully reinstall windows from that point. Try doing a repair first- if that does not work, do a full reinstall.

When i turn on laptop screen oes blank but can see curser

Do you see the acer splash screen before you get the black screen with the curser? If so it is more than likely a windows problem. Boot from your XP disk and select R when prompted to repair. Once in the repair console type the following:

chkdsk /r

When it is finished (will take about an hour) then type exit to restart the computer.

Hope this helps

Black screen

Seems to be some infection of virus or might be the Startup processes making problem.

Do one thing.. try booting up in Safe Mode by continuously tapping F8 during restart..

This will enable you to opt for Safe Mode login and see if this can make you to get your desktop screen.

After then we can proceed for further diagnose.
