Take a 2 or 3 foot piece of starter rope and push it in the spark plug hole towards the top of piston(make sure you are coming up on top dead center so the valves are closed, that way you wont bend one). The rope will pack up in the head and stop the piston from moving without damaging it.

Lawnmower engine won't start. No compression

Model number? Engine make/model?

Not likely the rod(s) snapped. If it's an OHV engine, I suspect it kicked a pushrod(s) out of place.

Check for piston movement. Remove spark plugs and put a long screw driver down the plug hole. Manually turn the engine. If the screw driver moves, the connecting rod is intact. Check both cylinders. If piston(s) are moving then likely it's a valve related problem. Remove rocker arm covers and inspect.

How to change rear brakes on 2003 PT Cruiser

loosen the tire lugs while tire on the ground, jack up the vehicle and support it with a jack stand, secure vehicle to prevent rolling and make sure it is in park with the engine off. now finish up loosening the lug nuts and take off the wheel. now open the brake oil filler cap, if it is a disc brake set up get a pry bar or large flat head screw driver and insert it between the brake disc and the rotor and pry it loose to push the brake caliber piston back in its seated position now remove the screws that hold the caliber normaly 2 screws. now clean the caliber with cleaner you might have to push the piston back more using a c-clamp or a large channel lock or you can buy a tool that you twist to seat the piston back into the caliber. mount the new disc pads match them to the old ones re position the caliber into its place and re install the 2 mounting bolts, do the same for the other side and once done get in the car and pump the brake peddle to push the piston against the disc pads mount the wheels and tighten the lug nuts remove jack stand and lower the vehicle, check your brake fluid level and top it off if needed secure oil cap get into the vehicle start it and pump brakes again for several times until it feels hard. now you can take it on a test drive. drive about 20 mph for a several yards come to a complete stop do that for about 8 times to set the brake pads, buy brake pads with life time warranty and save the box and the receipt when you are ready to change them again take them off and put them in the box and take them to be exchanged you can buy a book at the auto parts place they list the complete instruction for disc brakes and brake shoe. for brake shoes we recommend you read the book as there are too many little parts to deal with

A request to anchor in adesignated position

This may mean you need to use a special tool which prevents the piston from moving up allowing the flywheel or chain drive to be taken off. It can be a piece that screws in at the spark plug and is long enough to stop the piston from rising anymore or a hard plastic tool that fits into the spark plug hole against the top of the head and the piston and is thick enough to stop piston movement from reaching top dead center.
Or it could mean they want the saw secured or locked down for filing or whatever the purpose to prevent movement , such as putting the bar in a vice while filing to prevent slippage and an accident. That what is my take on it, but I could be wrong.

Hi i'm trying to take apart a toshiba satellite l655-s5096 and as far as I can tell I've got all the screws but it won't release. I've ben looking for a manual but I've had no luck. If...

take all the screws off the bottom (including the screws hidden by the optical drive), turn the laptop over, open it. there is a small strip of plastic right above the keyboard, pry it loose and remove the 4 screws from underneath to release the keyboard. disconnect all the exposed ribbon cables and any other cable connector that you can see. once you've done this pick a spot on one of the edges to start prying it apart. Use a small screw driver or plastic pry tool if you need it. (on this model I started with the top right hand corner.)

How do you get the calliper to compress on the dodge journey? It looks like a special tool is needed. Is there a way to compress it without a special tool. We bought the universal one and it didn't fit the...

If it is for the back brakes you have to have a special tool that turns the caliper at the same time as pushing it in. My uncle and I just used a C clamp and screw drivers to turn and push in. I worked on them by myself for well over an hour and finally called the dealership and they told me I had to buy a special tool that cost over 20 bucks.
On the front brakes just use a C clamp and loosen the brake fluid valve cause it may cause dirty fluid to run back into the reservoir. I ran a small hose from the valve to a bucket to catch the brake fluid. Hope this helps.

  1. Check the IPL for your saw to see if any special tools are needed.
  2. There are metal piston stops available, when square (almost never) with the piston top these work well, if not square they have been known to punch through the piston. I suggest a length of starter cord or nylon rope be used instead of the piston stop (retain 6" ± so you can remove it). Make sure the piston is near the top of the cylinder before feeding the cord or it can fall through the exhaust port and damage the piston as it rises.
  3. Everyone I’ve ever removed had a left handed thread (tighten it to loosen it).
Let us know how it worked for you. GL
