Microwave packed up on a NEFF H7871 Combi. Burning smell, removed magnatron which appears to be the problem, not certain though. Do magnatrons burn up?

I currently have the same problem and Neff can't fix it. Problem is a short on one of the boards. Currently the required replacement boards are not available.

If it went dead almost immediately after pressing the Start pad, that\'s usually a shorted high-voltage capacitor.

If it went dead a few seconds after pressing the Start pad, that\'s usually a failing high-voltage transformer.

Here are some links you or someone you know can use for test help, but read their safety warnings first:

SOURCE: burning smell microwave

The burning smell is most likely the rectifier burning. Look for a rectanguler black thing connecting from one lead of the capacitor to ground.

SOURCE: replace light bulb on the Neff H7871 combined oven and microwave.

The bulb is positioned at the top of the oven, accessible only from the outside. You'll need to pull off the top and bottom trim strips, remove the bottom trim strip locators, remove 2 fixing screws from the left edge of the oven (with door open), and the 2 fixing screws from behind the top trim strip. The oven should then just slide out. You only need to pull it out 6 inches or so to gain access to the bulb cover. You'll need a T20 driver to remove the cover, then the bulb unscrews as it has an SES fitting. Bob

SOURCE: sparking at the ceramic bush

If the ceramic bush, that is a good insulator of electricity, is arcing. Maybe it needs cleaning.

My SMH4150 microwave appears to be working, but is not heating . It is 5 years old and there is a smell of burning plastic. Everything else seems fine.

Check the door safety interlock switches.

Do you regularly shut the machine off by opening the door? Each event causes a small arc on the tiny contacts and will burn them. When they can no longer make contact, your microwave doesn't know if the door is open or closed. The machine must know the door is closed to turn in the magnatron (that thing that makes the heat).

Remove the cover and check the microw switches with a volt/omh meter.

Making loud buzzing sound & smells like wires burning.

That is the Magnatron or the Hi-Voltage transformer. If I could smell it I could tell the difference. The transformer will produce smoke more so than the Mag.

Microwave makes loud noise and does not heat. Smell of light burning

The noise is coming from the high-voltage transformer being overloaded by something shorting it out. Either the magnatron or the high-voltage capacitor and diode. Replace the capacitor and diode then if still not working, replace the magnatron. Its only affordable if you do it yourself - buy the part on EBAY - lookup "universal magnatron"
Hope ya fix it!

Microwave repair, 6 year old White-Westinghouse WW1000

High voltage parts: Capacitor, Diode, Magnatron are suspect. Need to put a voltmeter on the input (primary) side to the high-voltage transformer (big heavy iron thing in there) Should be getting 120Vac when it goes to cook cycle. Don't touch the other (high voltage) side of this transformer. If the power is there, you are looking at replacing either the magnatron or the high-voltage capacitor and diode. Its affordable if you do it yourself - buy the part on EBAY - lookup "universal magnatron"
Hope ya fix it!

Power Problems on NEFF H7871 Combi Microwave

It would seem there is a bad connection in the fuse holder or in the wall socket or in the microwave itself. Maybe you can narrow it down to the microwave by trying other devices in the wall socket. If it's the microwave, it's time to call for serivce.
