Tried pressing volume up and power several times didnot work what else?

A hard reset is worth a try but it is unlikely to fix the problem, it sounds like a hardware issue.

Here are instructions for a hard reset
Make sure the tablet is OFF.

1. Hold down both volumes and power at the same time. You should get an android on its back opened up.
2. Press both volumes at same time to open up a small blue text menu.
3. Then use Vol - and Vol + to navigate the Recovery mode.
4. Select "Factory Data Reset"
5. press power
6. choose "yes" from the menu
7. then press power again.

If this does not work try holding down the volume and power at the same time.

well you can press the volume up button while pressing the power button then press the volume down bottom 3 times then press the center home key. try variations of this. see if it works. did you try removing battery and putting it back in?
