And I smell gas when using it.
I would drain the oil and gas or whatever is in it. I would also drain the 2 cycle mix from the gas tank and start with a fresh gas and oil mix and fresh bar oil. The mix for the Poulan Wildthing is a 40:1 mix.
You are definitely going to smell gas when using any chain saw.
Testimonial: "I should have made my question more clear. I am nearly certain gas has leaked from my gas tank to the oil bar compartment and that gas leaks out of the saw (not through the fill port). I will likely need to tear the thing apart to see where it is leaking but was hoping to find someone that had been through this before. Suggestions anyone?"
SOURCE: Gas Oil Mixture
USE 50 TO 1 RATIO BETTER MORE OIL THAN LESS WORST OUT COME A BIT MORE SMOKE RATHER THAN SEIZURE
SOURCE: Fuel Mixture for a Poulan Wild Thing
as far as i know it is 1:40, or 3.2 ounce Oil to 1 Gallon unleaded regular fuel
SOURCE: poulan 14
Use actual bar oil sold for that purpose. It's thicker and won't run out like water. Synthetic oil is very thin does not have the proper density.

I'm not ure how gas could leak from the gas tank to the oil bar compartment, as they are two separate tanks. I know for certain that this saw is infamous for bar oil leaking when it sits. If there is indeed gas leaking, I would agree with you the solution is to start taking it apart. There are video's on YouTube on tearin down the Poulan WildThing. This link takes you to one of them:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZRRcI5ksm... Hope this helps, and good luck with your saw.
