Dell Inspiron 600m Speakers

My mother-in-law gave me her old laptop and it worked great until my brother borrowed it for a power point presentation. Since I got it back the speakers crackle like they have been blown but when I plug headphones in i hear the same crackle in them. This makes me think it's something other than the actual speakers, has anyone else had this problem?

Hi, I have just had a similar problem on my Acer5600 notebook regadless of if the speakers of headphones were being used. A continuous buzz, hum and crackle which varied depending upon if I ran the notebook in high performance or low performance. The high performance setting gave the worse results. I had installed Adobe CS3 suite (Trial version) 2 days ago so have just uninstalled it. Hey Presto, half way through the uninstall process i heard a click and the noise has gone !!. I can only assume its a driver conflict of some sort.
Hope this helps anyone else with a similar problem :-)

Try making sure all the volume mixer settings are less than 90% of maximum as this can sometimes cause this problem

Microphone on Dell Inspiron 600M PC Notebook not working

If your Inspiron 600m had a mic that you used in the past and it is no longer working, please try to press the mute/volume down/up buttons near where the whole of the mic is located.
If, after trying the above, 1 or all 3 buttons do not work, the problem is with the board that is right under the power button (small 2-3 inch length circuit board). It is not making full contact on its connector below. If you put pressure on it (just above the power button) it will all respond. I had the same problem on another 600m laptop.

Laptop won't dock

The inspiron 600M will not function in a D-Dock, but will work in a D-Series port Replicator. (Although the D600 and 600M share the same motherboard, the bottom plastics are different)

After trying the 600M in the D-Dock, it is possible the dock is damaged. I would undock the D630, then delete the docked profile. power off, dock, and reboot and see if it detects and works.

Mother board problem (problem turning power on)

Try the repair service locator at the home page of Fixya. It will list any of our experts that are available or have shops in your area. I will recommend that you stay away from Bestbuy, they're expensive, and always trying ro sell you more.
