SOURCE: have john deere lt155 in storage for 3 yrs won't

sounds like one of two things can wrong...
1) the magneito may have built up a fine layer of rust up between it and the fly wheel magnets.
*solution to this is to take some fine sandpaper (wet/dry will work) and sand the magnets on the flywheel and then carefully sand the two contact post's on the magneito that face the flywheel when it turns. after this you'll have to re-gap the magneito. you can use a good crisp buisness card to do this.
loosen up the two bolts holding down the magneito (dont take them out) so that the magneito will slide to flywheel when magnet comes around...place the buisness card on magneito post's surface so that it creats a bearer between it and the flywheel (you'll have to use both hands to do this) then while holding the buisness card in place turn flywheel (by hand) (its easy and safer to remove spark plug to do this) untill magneito automatically slips towards the flywheel magnet (dont remove card yet). tighen the bolts so that the magneito stays in place while you remove the buisness card slowly so as that you dont disturb the placement of flywheel to magneito... once you tighten the bolts the rest of way you in buisness

2) the pionts might need to be re-gapped or even replaced.
* they are located under the flywheel of mortor. you'll have to take it off to get this far..
i would try the magnneiot solution first.

SOURCE: need instructions for changing a drive belt on a John Deere LT155

I have googled LT155 and came upon john deere LT155 lawn tractor(noncurrent). It took me to John Deere's site. I put in your model number and it had several catagories. I would try the alphabetical list, go to B and look for traction belt.
Good day.

SOURCE: we have a john deer rider lt155 runs great

Hi,

If the engine starts to slow down and then stops all together, it is most likely "Seizing" up. The best way to check if this is the case is to try to start it when it has just stopped. If it will not crank or you can not pull the start rope it is because the clearance between the piston and the cylinder is too close. This is normally caused by the engine running out of oil at sometime in the past or the cooling of the engine has been interrupted by grass plugging the passages, the engine has over heated and the friction between the piston and the cylinder has caused metal on the piston and the cylinder to expand and transfer and bind the parts. If you can't pull it over and it is "frozen" and will not rotate it is cheaper to just buy a new engine in the long run. If it will pull over and doesn't run look for loose carburettor on the flange that bolts to the engine block or low compression as the reason.

Also when the engine quits you should check for spark before it cools down. If it doesn't have spark I would suspect the ignition coil. If it does have spark I would suspect that it is a fuel problem. Check the tank for debris and water. Water will look like blobs on the bottom of the tank. The most likely cause is the carburettor. I would remove it and take it apart for a good cleaning with curb cleaner. A rebuild kit should be used to put it back together. The electrical connection on the bottom of the curb is a fuel shutoff solenoid. It should have 12 volts when the key is in the run position. If it doesn't the fuel will be shut off to the curb. Sounds like you listed all the normal maintenance. Oil changes every 25 hrs. Air filters once a season or every 100 hrs, same with oil filter. Check your fuel cap and make sure that the vent is not clogged with debris. If you can't blow through it slightly, it is clogged and creates a vacuum in the tank after it runs for awhile, stalling the engine. You can test this first by just loosening the cap a bit and see if the problem goes away.

Let us know if you want something else please accept the solution.

I had a similar problem lasy year.
Try this:
As soon as the machine seems to be stalling, loosen the gas cap.
If the engine continues to run, clean the gas cap vent hole(s).
