I have a Polk home surround sound system problem

I bought this high end Polk surround sound system about 5 yrs ago and have my TV sound wired through the receiver. It worked great until about a month ago when suddenly the surround sound option essentially stopped working (I got almost no sound out of it) and I needed to switch the receiver option to ''stereo'' and it seemed to be OK until a couple of days ago when suddenly this screeching sound came out of all 5 speakers continuously even with the system off until I literally unplugged the sub-woofer. I've tried to plug it in several times and it continues to screech. I didn't purchase an extended warranty. Fry's (retailer) won't help me. I can't figure out what's wrong or where to take it to get it fixed. Help. Thanks!!!

I don't have the model name of this system with me right now. Accordingly, I just arbitrarily picked a Polk name for Product description which is incorrect so I can post this question. The system I bought was next to Bose the top end surround sound Polk system that includes a receiver, subwoofer, a DVD player and 5 speakers.

I've bought a panasonic sound surround dvd player and want to link it to a sky+ box and tv so that sky will play in sound surround. Can you advise on the wiring configuration please?

look at the back of your tv does it have a audio out RCA jack?
it should do plug in the surround sound into that using RCA cables

if your tv does not have audio out RCA jack then you can

get a adapter which makes scart connectors turn into RCA jacks get that off ebay

plug the yellow line to the tv and connect the red and white to suround sound
but with this there are a few problems sound will only come out when surround sound is turned on and skys sound will never play out the tv
if you switch to a PS3 or something it will not play suround sound

yuo best option is the RCA plugs in the back of the tv

because you have not written the model number of the tv or the suround sound i cant help any further

Maybe I don't quite get what you're trying to do.

Unless you still tune programs off the air from the TV tuner and an antenna - what possible TV program would come into the TV that the DirectTV box wouldn't already provide high quality sound and video for? You should run the audio from the DirectTV box to the receiver.

Creating a surround sound system

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Offhand should work more than OK. Even if the 520 is only pushing 75watts per channel, you have 2 X for the front KSB-2.1 (left & right) plus another 75 for the Polk Audio center in addition to 250watts built-in amp of the Velodyne CT-150. What would be better is another pair of KSB-2.1 or comparable for the surround (another 2 X 75 and widening the separation).

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.

I have a Panasonic HT80 dvd system which plays 5 discs, bought in 2000.

If u have the same or similar he way to get the sound through the recorder is to put the audio output phono leads from the tv to the back of the dvd. On the remote (on mine) there is a button for dvd/tv/ext, oput this to tv it should allow the sound to be transferred from the tv set.

Wiring with a sattelite receiver and new Samsung TV

Nope RamaTheMan - you are incorrect! No way to get an actual surroundsound from your TV on this turd - this came straight from the Samsung FAQ -

"You cannot get surround sound from your television. On the other hand, if your television has audio output jacks you can connect your TV or Set Top Box to your Home Theater System and get stereo sound (that is, sound from the left and right speakers of your Home Theater System only).
To connect your TV or STB audio output jacks to your Home Theater System and get stereo sound, follow these steps:
  1. Turn off your TV and Home Theater System.
  2. Connect the Audio Out jacks on your TV to the External Audio Input jacks on the back of your Home Theater System. The External Audio Input connectors are typically labeled AUX IN. Note: There are usually two pairs of Audio Input jacks, AUX 1 and AUX 2. Each pair has a jack for the left audio input and the right audio input. Often, there are two Video AUX IN jacks as well. You can plug the audio cables into either audio AUX 1 or AUX 2. See the following diagram.
    auxin.jpg
  1. Turn on your TV and Home Theater System.
  2. Press the Function Button on the front panel of your Home Theater System until the display on your Home Theater System shows AUX 1 or AUX 2.
For advanced installation, if you are using a High Def STB, you can connect an OPTICAL connection from the STB to the HTS. This is a specified cable that must be purchased separately.
In either instance, you must then set the HTS to its auxiliary input. (i.e AUX 1, AUX 2, DIGITAL IN) in order to get the sound from the HTS.
Note: If your television does not have Audio Out jacks, you may be able to get stereo sound by attaching the Audio Out jacks on your VCR to either the AUX 1 or AUX 2 audio inputs on your Home Theater System. If you attach your VCR to AUX 1 or AUX 2, you will have to tune your television to channel 3 or 4, and then tune to the station you want to watch on your VCR."
