Question about Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-S90 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Battery/power-up problem Camera will not stay powered up. The "low battery" indicator shows up on the display, and then it shuts off shortly thereafter. I've tried many combinations of AA batteries to make sure it wasn't really a low battery problem. I have not used any of the batteries Sony warns against in their manual (e.g. Manganese, etc.). Any ideas before I go look for a new camera? Thanks in advance for your help. MG

For what its worth I had this same problem with both rechargeables and alkcalines. Fresh batteries were rejected after just a few shots and were clearly NOT dead. Solution seems to be either use Sony's NP-NH25 cybershot battery which is made of two AA batteries jointed at the hip or use generic rechargeable NiMh batteries with a capacity superior to Sony's battery (>2500mAh).

When l try to shoot my picture the lens retracts. How do l solve this problem?

If this happens each time you're about to take a photo it's usually sign the battery is low. The camera will power on and show the display but there's not enough power to run the autofocus and image recording/processing so the camera shuts down. Try new batteries or if your batteries show to be charged try different batteries as sometimes there's an error in reading. You can also try manually resetting your camera to factory specs from you camera menu.

Batteries and phone very hot

There is a short in the phone that causes a high rate of battery discharge resulting in a overheating battery.
This cell phone is faulty and I suggest you get a new cell phone.

My canon SX110 IS camera has recently started displaying 'battery is low' and flashing the red low battery sign even a few minutes after putting in brand new batteries. I have tried with several new sets...

I had the same problem with new batteries reporting as "low" and instant shut-off. After I found that it would stay on when plugged into USB, I suspected a firmware bug in the camera (I am a computer engineer). So I thought "how can I fool it?" I then found that it would stay on if you power it up with the rotary dial BETWEEN the video and manual ("M") setting -- in the "illegal" position. The after it's on, every mode works!

Camara shuts off as soon as it turns on. Lens

I believed that you are using the battery came from the box the KLIC-7004 which is very good. Now since the battery indicates its charge, first thing you need to do is to removed the battery and Memory card, Now wipe the 3 metal contacts of your battery then reinsert only the battery in your camera then Turn It On. If the camera shuts off try to used 5V AC adaptor to Turn On the camera, If this failed to turn On using the AC adaptor It means the camera needs of service call Kodak Tech support toll free 1 800 421 6699 ext 12

Battery low indicator comes on even after new battery installed

I also have this problem. I put freshly recharged batteries in the DX3900 and the camera starts to turn on and reads the memory card (the green LED blinks) and then I notice that the in CAPTURE mode the lens does not extend out of the body housing. The top display shows a flashing low battery warning and after approx. 15 seconds, the camera shuts off with no function.

I have determined that the camera appears to have changed its low battery sense level as I have verified that the batteries are indeed fully charged by using a volt meter. If I have the camera in a warm environment, and do not have the LCD display on (removes a major power drain) the camera can be made to work for a short while. If I select the LCD to turn on, the extra drain seems to cause the camera's battery monitor to think that the battery voltage is too low and the camera shut down. I have yet to resolve this issue.

Display battery level

Well, I tried pressing and HOLDING down the mode button. The battery level display miraculously showed up. I’ve also read (yahoo answers) that battery level display will show up automatically when battery is low. Hopefully I won't have to do this every time I recharge the battery.

New Batterys and camera indicates batterys low then shuts off.

Did the batteries come with the camera? If not, they might not be a high enough mah rating. Some batteries, even though brand new, may not be strong enough to power a camera.

Battery Low indicator and Camera shuts Down

What brand of memory card are you using? Sandisc, Toshiba and Panasonic are the only ones that really work with the cameras. If using one of those trying resetting the camera.

Menu
go to setup
go up to reset
press right arrow
highlight reset
press set

If that doesn't work....Send it into repairs and they will send you an estimate on what it would cost to fix it. Give them a call at 800-706-2534 option 2.

Battery display low indication and switch off even new batteries placed

Dear Camera User, I am by no means a professional when it comes to these matters. However, I do have the same camera as you, and currently have the same problem. Other users with the same camera have also apparently had the same problem as us. I have not gotten a chance to try this yet, but I read that if you keep the camera on the video feature for a while, and maybe even try recording some video, the camera will finally power up properly and not have to shut down all the time. According to the user who suggested this, his camera worked ever since that incident. So it is very possible that this may be the solution, or at least, one of them. Good luck to you...and to me (I have yet to try it).
