For what its worth I had this same problem with both rechargeables and
alkcalines. Fresh batteries were rejected after just a few shots and
were clearly NOT dead. Solution seems to be either use Sony's NP-NH25
cybershot battery which is made of two AA batteries jointed at the hip
or use generic rechargeable NiMh batteries with a capacity superior to
Sony's battery (>2500mAh).

I have the same problem.
me too!!! help!! it seems that I can "view" the pictures, but it won't allow me to take any....
I have tried using all diffrent kinds of new batterys and my camra will not stay powered it turns on for a breif second shows the low battery signal and shuts off.
low battery indictor shows even with new battery. Going through batteries every time I use the Sony Cybershot camera. Help!
