Problem using lens hood

I have been using Nikon cameras for years right from Nikkormat Ftn-Nikon F2-Nikon 90X-Nikon F5.At present I own the Nikon D80. I was rather surprised to read the "Operation manuel" never to use the lens hood while using the flash as it causes vigneting. In all the Nikon camers I used I was always adviced to use the hood all the time in order to avoid stray light. Now why did not the Nikon designers take this in account? Please reply by email. Thanking you in anticipation. --Samuel--

Maybe because the manual authors assumed the reader would use the built in flash instead of the one you slide into the top which is ok with lens hood.

Thats why we pro photographers use our flashes off our cameras
You dont have to use the hood just when shooting outside when the sun shines across you lens leaving colored spots across your picture it like shading your eyes from the sun.

Need to convert a Vivitar 70-150mm telephoto from Canon TX to Nikon FTn mounts

Vivitar made several different 70-150mm lenses. If the lens has a T-mount then you can purchase a Nikon T-mount adapter and replace the Canon one on the lens. If the lens does not have a T-mount then you're out of luck. Nikon cameras have thicker bodies than Canon cameras, and an adapter would have to have negative physical size.

Problems using Nikkor AF 35-70mm F3.3-4.5 with Nikon D80?

The sensor on the D80 is smaller than a piece of 35mm film. This means the camera will only use the center portion of the image cast by the lens. This reduces the angle of view, effectively increasing the focal length. The 35-70mm will give you an angle of view similar to a 52-105mm lens on a film camera. Likewise the 70-210mm lens will give you an angle of view similar to a 105-315mm lens.

Nikon camera

For the best under $1000, that would be the D90.

The 18-105VR will work on the D70s.

I have a 2nd hand nikon d80 - when i use the flash, i get a black shadow on the screen.

You didn't specify the lens, but I'll bet you're getting the shadow of the lens hood. Try removing the lens hood.

My D80 will not auto focus with any of my 3 Nikkor lenses. It will fire on auto focus when you manually focus while in that auto focus mode.

Press the AF button on the top of the camera (to the right of the window) to select an AF mode & make sure the M/A (Manual / Auto focus) switch on the lens set to "A"

Nikon d80

RESET Find the two buttons with green dots next to them on the top right of the D80. They are the +/- * and AF * buttons. Hold them both down for a few seconds. The top LCD blinks and everything is back to normal.
