Usually when a sony digital camera displays that message it means that the lens will not extend or retract and as such there is a problem with your lens that needs professional service.
it is possible you are using the wrong batteries or instaling them wrong.
theses cameras require better batteries and you may have to pay extra for the ones that will work .
try a different brand.
Hello, Put camera in Auto mode (green mark) on Jog dial at top and there is control / navigate switch near LCD, check upper button, it has Flash sign / mark on it. Press this button and observe Flash mark(yellow) in LCD. Flash is ready now and take picture. Need further help, let me know.
