Surging 5000w Coleman Generator

It does fine when you first crank it. Once it warms up it surges back and fourth. I took the carb apart and it looked ok. Put it back together same problem. The only time it does not surge is when it has a full load on it. Any help would be appreciated thanks.

I had a Colman that only surged when it had a large load on it. ConsumerReports.org says that some Coleman generators just can't hold a constant voltage. Hondas are expensive but very good,.

Re. Coleman Powermate 5000 Watt Generator (surging)
Apparently, no one has a solution for this. I have been fighting this "piece" of equipment since the day I bought it. At first I had to spray gas into it to even get it started. After a new carburator, valve job, spark plug, new head head gasket, and new governor spring, it now starts after a couple pulls but still surges terribley. I am at my witts end and refuse to put more money into it. It's only good enough to run a couple of lights, just can't trust it to run and or ruin a refridgerator. Sadly disappointed in this so called generator.

Does anyone have a solution to the surging problem?

Is it surging under load or not? Surging is generally fuel related and can be a multitude of reasons, most likely in the carb if it has sat. It can also be binding or sticking governor arm, make sure it is free to move, and you have the correct weight oil and level in it.

Coleman 5000 watt generator Tecumseh 10 hp engine. Surging r.p.m. Carburetor has been gone through 2 times, and still not correct. Any information will help!!!

it's running lean.....try resetting the choke partially when it begins to surge.....not completely closed, but enough to richen the fuel mixture (that's all a choke does btw..)
if that helps or clears the problem, your carb is outta whack.....cheaper to buy a new carb than keep taking back into the shop.

Coleman Powermate 3000 surging

Check your air filter to make sure it is clean, especially if the gen. has been run in dirty, dusty conditions. Make sure the gas tank vent is not clogged.

Also, pour some combustion cleaner into the carb. through the air intake to clean the carb. It sounds like it is starving for gas.

Hope this helps.

I have a coleman 54-2000 generator 2250 was working great then it started making a noise & it quit puting out 120 volt down to 62volts so I took it apart I checked the rotor & it is shorted ou

you said that your rotor is damaged so you have to re-wire it ...as for the stator testing procedure ..bring an ohmeter and put one side on the first end of the wire and the other on the other end....check for electrical continuity...if it beeped or lighted or did whatever it should do...then the stator is fine if not email me please...

Engine is surging.

hi,

sound through experience you have a air leak possible from a gasket or oring if so equipped. take some wd 40 and spray around the carb gaskets and seams. if this stabalises the surging or smooths it out it is definatley seeping air around it. in any case you will most likely need to take the carb back apart and repair or replace the gasket. hopes this helped. happy mowing!

Coleman 6875, Does it have an auto idle???

Hi,
If you've got an auto idle function you'll also have a switch somewhere to shut it off, so look for that first.
Engine surging is almost always a problem somewhere in either the air cleaner or the carb. Check the air cleaner, if it's not dirty take the bowl off the carb and look for dirt in the bottom.

Regards,
Carl
