Yes the voltage on my keyboard has to be 1.5v or greater per cell to get it to work well with my keyboard. Fresh alkaline won't hold 1.5v very long. And I like rechargables and they never get to 1.5v per cell. So I added a third AA battery and run rechargables. Now it works until the cells drop to 1.0v each.

Press the Receiver button (and the lights will start
flashing.
Then if the Keyboard isn't working, press the small RESET/CONNECT
button on the back of the board to connect the keyboard to the
receiver.
If the MOUSE isn’t working, push the small RESET/CONNECT button
on the back of the mouse to connect to the receiver. Then they
should work okay.

i had this same problem with my keyboard a while back.
and when i fixed it...
i had to reinstall the disc that came with the mouse and keyboard, like it needed to be updated. so i suggest you reinstall it with the disc.
