Tail lights/turn signals and driver brake lights work, passenger-side brake light doesn't

I have a problem where one tail brake light works, the other does not. All the tail lights/turn signals work. I've replaced the bulbs and stop (brake) switch. Fuses are good. What else could it be?

Find a multimerter or an ohmmeter and someone to work it and test the socket to see if electricity is getting to the bulb. Someone will need to push on the brake pedal whilst someone else tests it.
Sometimes a wire can break, or sometimes a metal contact inside the socket can go bad, or can bend in such a manner that the bulb no longer contacts it. Also, sometimes new bulbs are defective.
Be blessed.

Thanks for the quick feedback! Forgot to mention that I checked with my multimeter and I'm getting about 12V when I test the contacts, but I'm not sure which contacts go with which. In other words, to the contacts on top a pair or and the contacts on each side a pair. Do either of you know? That would give me a better idea.

Sorry to bother you guys. I figured it out. It's simply a bad socket. I swapped them out an sure enough, the brake socket was dead. Ordered another one and my problem will be fixed. Thanks for your help!

SOURCE: 2001 dodge neon tail lights inop

looking at your schematics and , you say tail lights don't work , you didn't mention if front parking lights and license plate lights are working , they all come from the same source , a black /yellow wire , a good clue if front work and rear don't , please advise .if fronts work then you have a open circuit somewhere between junction S118 (near breakout for left headlamp) and rear sockets.

SOURCE: Need fuse schematic

if the fuse was blown the stop lights on both sides would be inop, also if the stop light circuit were dead u would be unable to get the trans out of park, use a 12 volt test light and test the brake light switch at the top of the brake pedal, u can buy a test light from Autozone, kragen and others for about $5 US. If the system has power cjheck the bulb socket it may be defective, use the 12 volt test light while someone pushes the brake pedal. let me know what u find and i will give u further assistance as ness.

SOURCE: check fuse replace brake light switch, and still

first check the fuse for the stop light circuit, if it's good, check your bulbs, it's possible they are all burned out! take one of them out, swap in a new one, and see if it lights. If not, get a wiring diagram and start checking for your powers and grounds. Take a look at the stop light switch on the brake pedal. If it's no good, there is a good chance that your cruise control may not work properly either. Good luck.

GM doesn't have the best tail light setup. do you own a test light? You should start at the back. The turn signals and hazards use one bulb. The brake light uses another bulb. Remove the bulb and carefully test for ground and power. If it is there then it is either the bulb or related contacts. If power or ground is not there then unplug the tail light assemble and test for power or ground again. The tail light circuit board is notorious for going bad. Please start here and write back if you need further help.

No brake lights and only 1 taillight works on driver side and no brake lights on passenger but I do have tail lights

Check your bulbs. There are two filaments in each bulb, one for tail light and one for the brake light, so it's possible to have a tail light with not turn signal or brake light.

2011 Ford Escape driver side tail light not working correctly - lights are on but turn signal flash not working and neither is the brighter brake light

I would guess that you need a new bulb. Many of these tail lights actually have two filaments inside them, one that is used for a dimmer light (running light) and one that is used for a brighter light like (brake light, turn signal). The easiest thing to try (and probably the cheapest) would be to buy a replacement bulb and change it. Most places that sell automotive light bulbs will have a large catalog where you look up the make model and year of the car you need a light for and it will tell you which replacement bulb you will need. Then look in your cars manual to see how you access and replace the bulb.

I have 89 bronco 2 my brake lights turn signals both work my tail lights don't work have check fuse n blubs what might be the problem

The turn signals and brake lights use the same circuit and filament in the bulbs. The tail lights are on the other circuit which comes from the headlight switch.
Do you have power on the tail light fuse ?

Tail lights work but not brake lights 93 toyota camry

The brake light side of the bulbs is powered by the brake switch and travels thru the turn signal switch.
If the third brake light works, I would guess the problem is in the turn signal switch.

When i press brake pedal driver side brake light quits working but other wise it works fine?

That has a double filament bulb in it. One is for the tail light and the other for the brake and maybe the turn signal. If your turn signal flashes the tail light and not an individual turn signal bulb it will behave the same way. The way it works is that the tail light filament goes off and the brighter brake light filament comes on. The brake light half of the bulb is out. If you change it, change the passenger side too, it will do the same shortly if you leave it in. They tend to go bad in pairs. Good luck.
